L.S.D in ??

hey guys thought about putting LSD in my 90 Legacy.

now what models came with LSD ?
didn't Turbo's have it ?
if so i know were a 92-94 Turbo wagon sits.

would the Gear ratio be the same ? I'm thinking its a 3.90 while mine is a 4.11

You will need to match your final drive and trans ratio, so if you are 4.11 you need to stay with a 4.11 LSD.
We just had a post that described what cars came with 4.11 LSDs but for the life of me I cannot find it! I know that 00-01 2.5RS 5MT has 4.11 LSD. I'm not sure of the years, 00-03 (someone verify this?) Legacy Outback 5MT with cold weather package had that LSD as well.

Not worth it for your purposes. It would involve a tranny swap to get the front to match the rear. One way of doing this is getting ANY Legacy/Impreza/Forester/Baja LSD rear diff, taking out the actual diff and putting it into your current carrier. otherwise just get a 4.11 LSD, making sure you have axles that fit the new diff.

ok. i wanted to find out which models had the LSD with same Gear Ratio.

the yard were I'm getting my Outback Struts from has few outbacks and Foresters i should check under them to Find an LSD.
anyway to tell with out crawling in the snow ?

they sell stuff cheap if you pull them out. i'm gettng all 4 struts for only $40 cuz i'm pulling them off :smt023

i'd have to find it out of an 2000-2001 Impreza RS 4Eat, OR 2002-2003 WRX 4Eat. for a 4.111 LSD

Hey that list at Wayne's site is really old.

Here's a partial list for cars with LSD & 4.11 gearing (US models):

Forester S 5MT(2001+, possibly 2000 as well),
Forester XS 5mt models (thru at least 2007),
WRX 4EAT models (The ones that came with the 2.0L motors, not sure about the 2.5L's, but they might as well),
Outbacks with winter package or Limited Edition (both from 2001+) (5MT),
Baja XT (5mt)

And your 2000-2001 RS needs to be 5MT, not 4EAT, those got the 4.444 gearing.

Generally Subarus with N/A 2.5 motors got 4.111 gearing with the manual and 4.444 with the auto. Things get funny when you throw in the 6cyl models, turbos and/or 5EAT transmissions....That's not saying the ones you find WILL have an LSD, but the ones on my list are SUPPOSED to from the factory. Always check the sticker on the back of the diff - it WILL say LSD on it along with the gear ratio (open diffs just list the gear ratios). If there's no sticker, and the car's in the air and in neutral, see if both wheels spin in the same direction when you turn one, not opposite directions like an open diff. I apologize if you knew all this, surely some reader out there will benefit.

If my list is missing any, please let me know - this question comes up a lot.

Doesn't list automatics or current cars,
no submodels (winter package, Limited, etc)

What's a "US Legacy Outback MY94?" That wasn't an option in 1994, only Ti, GT, Mi and GX, TW & SS were. (sorry for Legacy nerdiness) :smile:

No prob. You mentioned 92-94 turbo Legacys. If you are considering getting a 3.9 LSD, know that only the 1991 SS had them from the factory (both auto and manual turbo sedans and wagons for 1991-1994 had 3.9FD), although anyone could conceivably walk into a dealership and pay $1000+ for one.

Yeah, the pic is of a 94 TW that was on the lot when the 95 outbacks came out, and the dealership decided to paint it outback colors, to help it's chance of sale.
