Performance upgrade options for my Legacy?

is there any kind of performance upgrades i can do to my legacy without getting all crazy?

I would recommend starting with the normal stuff such as k&n air filter, quality sparkplugs (NGK platinums work really well)
Secondly, suspension, checking the suspension thread first. Non-turbo cars get really expensive to "mod" for a lot more horse power.

I ended up putting a 2.5D motor in my 96 and it made a huge difference (30+ more HP). Plug and play.

i did exhaust, air filter plugs, and i just got a neon coil pack and did a home made grounding kit, it was all cheap or free and next im gona get underdrive pulleys cause there only like 40 dollers on ebay, those are all chaep or free mods you can just search and find most of them in the diy section

hey SLI Noob, what kind of exhaust do you have? im lookin to get an apexi N1 universal and i dont know what size i should get for my 2.2. Any suggestions?
I heard a 2.5 inch was good but any larger and you loose horespower.

me? on mine i got 2.25 and i have a 5zigen commander 3 muffler its nice at idle and normal driving and screems at wot but i have a 2.5, the neon coil helps with sound too and its dirt cheap at a junk yard and easy to install

I did this on my old 2.2 motor (in my current 96 Legacy) -
From the junkyard -

1. Get an intact NEON coil
2. female plug from another neon (with at least 2" of wires for convenience) - OR MALE if your NEON coil has a female attached
3. cut male plug from junkyard legacy coil
4. solder (for best connectivity) male legacy & female (or male) neon together, taking note of which wire goes to what (in the junkyard car cuz colors don't match exactly) and use electrical tape
5. bolt on neon coil to your car, noticing only two bolts fit, plug in your jerry-rigged male-female(or male) cable. Done
6. Enjoy slightly more performance! Cost me less than $15 so I would consider this a worthwhile mod.

You might need different spark plug wires - I used those from a 2.5D motor since my original ones didn't fit the NEON coil

tip: make sure the neon coil bolts on to a legacy first, the original one I grabbed had holes too narrow or too wide, can't remember.
Also don't cut your own car's wires in case you grab the wrong stuff originally and need to go back!!!
Finally I kept my original legacy coil in the trunk for a few months "just in case"

^^ Isn't the idea of using the Neon coil because you can get an aftermarket MSD one? The stock Neon coil isn't any better than the stock Subaru coil (they are pretty much exactly the same in design)

The Neon has ~28k volt output potential. What's your subbie coil's output? (like I said, it's a cheap mod. Never seen an MSD that fits a subaru in the junkyard)

Gotta find one that bolts where your old one goes. By bolt I mean the top or bottom bolt on. Wanna say late 90s early 2000s

for my exhaust i just used the stock headers and i dont have a cat i did the spark plug spacer trick for the o2 sensor and had just kinda bolted it up to the headers, it didnt leack so i think its good. im gona get unequal length headers with 2.25 pipng as soon as i get paid, the noen coil i dont now wat year its the newer ones with the flat prongs on the plug not the round ones and you will have to make a little adapter plate to make it bolt up but its easy, i did the big 3 grounding points while i was at it, and the positive alternator wire, it helps with dimming lights and they say more power but i didnt feel anything
