2.2L or 2.5L?

Hi Folks,

I recently became a new subaru 2001 Legacy wagon owner. I am slowly building my knowledge on these cars after being a BMW man for sometime.

I have a newbie question which has been baffling me as I would like to pickup some UEL Borla rep headers, I'm not certain whether I have the 2.2L or 2.5L engine. Does it matter for UEL Borla Rep headers (?) Is there a simple quick way of indentifying? I believe that I have the brighton edition as my instrument cluster does not possess a tachometer (?)

you should try wikapidia-ing your car and it will tell you lots of good stuff to know

I have a 99 legacy brighton wagon ej2.2 automatic since new. brighton basically meant no options like power windows or anything. I was lucky to get a/c and a cassette deck in it (still there).

Ok - this helps clarify... I have power windows, AC and casette deck - but the odd ball is that I don't have a tachometer...

I've heard of one other 2.5 brighton, on NASIOC. Also a canadian car. How do you know the original owner didn't do an engine swap? (the one on Nasioc was an original 2.5). In the engine bay, drivers side, is a this tag:

Your engine type will be either EJ22E***** or EJ25*****

Finally, look at the engine, right on the block behind the alternator, and you'll have a tag like this:

It will say either EJ25 or EJ22.

2.2 or 2.5 doesn't matter for a header. what you need to know about your motor is if you have single or dual port heads

look under your car. yours will look like this, but you will have either dualport heads or single port like in the image below.
