About $3-500 at a dealer.

or you can get aftermarket replacements for around $250.

Google "catalytic convertor" and you should end up with "ecatalyticconvertor" or similar, they supply OEM type fitment for non-CA spec cars.

It's tough to specific without knowing what year, etc we're talking about. I checked a 93 Legacy L online (tried a '95 they didn't have a listing) and a "universal fit" is under $100. That will require making it fit, so expect extra labor time for it. A "direct fit" which should be an "unbolt the old, bolt in the new" process is in the $200+ range. Toss in a couple extra bucks for new bolts (you'll probably need them) and gaskets if you go the direct fit route.

Before I got rid of it, I replaced the cat on my '93 Impreza in the back yard with the car on jackstands. The worst part of the job was getting the old, rusted tight, bolts out. I didn't have an air compressor at the time, and still don't (yet) have a good torch. I was trying to heat the bolts with a propane plumber's torch, I don't think it helped much at all.....

Well I got a high-flow cat for $130. I love it. I recommend you doing that instead of an OEM cat.

Were you quoted for both cats and install? Because that's what it should cost.

Front cat is roughly $4-500, rear cat is about $400. Install for a dealer should only be 2-3hrs.
