i have a cobra brand radar detector that is a few years old. it is not picking up cops in Oregon, but it is in Washington. does anyone know what Oregon is using now to catch speeders, so i can go out and get a new one that works in Oregon.

I read that Washington's police force went cheap with their purchases of speed detection equipment. My valentine always picks them up with the KA band, although I've seen a couple using older 'K' equipment. I've been aware of laser exactly 3 times, so that's not big in the Seattle and northerly i-5 corridor that I travel daily.
Haven't been down to Oregon with my Valentine in a while, and don't remember which bands they were using, sorry. Pretty sure anything being sold new in Oregon would pick them up, however.

They probably use their eyes. And an instant-on radar gun - find a speeder, point the radar gun, fire the trigger.

That's a good point - the POP (instant on) isn't always detected by older models. Newer radar detectors you'll still see the POP when the cop use it against people in front of you.

thanks, costco has had i don't know if they still do, a nice decked out cobra radar detector for like $130 and i am pretty happy with the cobra. there is so many blue and silver outback wagons like mine in the area, i know of at least 12 in my town, that are the same color, and a lot more that are not my color so it is doubtful that i will get noticed easily in the outback, the big white astro van is another story.

ISO Quality Planning of San Francisco issued a report (seen at Newsday) that shows Hummer drivers get the most traffic tickets per 100,000 miles driven, based on insurance company records.

And the Corvette and Mustang aren’t even in the top 10:
Vehicles with the Most Tickets

1. Hummer H2, H3
2. Scion tC
3. Scion xB
4. Mercedes CLK63AMG
5. Toyota Solara Coupe
6. Mercedes CLS63AMG
7. Scion xA
:smt026 8. Subaru Outback :smt026
9. Audi A4
10. Toyota Matrix

Use to have a passport 8500 x50 and it was one of the best radars that I owned. Like much of the discussion already mentioned, the po po have found new ways to catch speeders either switching between different band (ex) X or Xa. They use alot more POP (Radar Guns) now and some of the lower end radars do not have this detection. No radar is going to 100% prevent anyone for a ticket but some of the top radar brands... Escort and Beltronics have better sensitivity and detection . What you pay is what you get.

^ the one i mentioned supposedly has very close performance with one of those according to tests that were done on it by.. radarguy i think? I'm not sure.. but if you look up reviews, even people who own the passports like the whistler pro-78. I dunno.. i'm just VERY happy with it i guess!
