So I was going to buy a car today

I went to the dealership 3 days ago and looked at an 01 RS 5spd, 80K its a nice car, they were asking 12K$ for it but I figure I could talk them down a bit. I went there yesterday and drove it and loved it then today I went back to buy it and it was gone :(

That's why I have always followed the rule that if you see it, you like it, you can afford it, BUY IT! don't wait around becuase someone else is doing the same thing. I have bought a few cars out from under people that were stalling wondering if they wanted it or not. Both were my Legacy's :wink:

I had the opposite a little while back. Saw it, at the dealer I pass every day (2 blocks from my house) loved it. Stopped to check it out, couldn't afford it, so I refused to drive it. It was at a good price for the year/mileage/condition so I figured it'd move quickly. Nope, it sat there mocking me, every day for what seemed like an eternity. Every day I hoped someone had bought it so I wouldn't have to see it and be tempted to buy more car than I could afford. Every day, it was still there. Finally when I was about to break down and buy it, it was gone.

I usually get a good gut feeling. Well, at least I have for the past two cars: 1993 Jeep Cherokee and the 98 Legacy.

I found the Jeep strolling through the dealers lot. Drove it, looked it over, liked it, bickered on the price and placed a deposit down. Went back a week later on the 4th of July and gave up the rest of the cash.

I found the Subie in a classified publication. private sale. The owner had someone going to look at it on a Saturday afternoon. I went up that morning....and tried to place a deposit...he wouldn't take it. He said he trusted me. And he waived off the other guy. Met him at my bank a week later, they cut him a check and he cut me the keys.

I have walked away from potentials though once I got an ill feeling from some.

You just gotta know what you're looking for, what its worth and what you can afford. Go from there.

should have put a deposit down on it... that way they'd hold the car for you.

when i bought my cavalier, i had done my research on the car, knew it was what i wanted, and started talking numbers. i was prepared to buy it before i had even driven it (that's how much i wanted the car). i did test drive before i bought and i got a good deal on it.

i'm in the process of picking up a 96 leg wagon as we speak. the owner was waiting on the title to come in and it did today. i have to call penndot tomorrow and find out what all i need to get it registered in PA (currently is registered and titled in NY) and then it'll just be a matter of going to drive it quick and hand over the cash.

I was going to testdrive a 98 Legacy L wagon on Sunday, 100k, 5spd 2.2L, blue, $4000. Salesguy calls me while I'm on the way there - someone drove it and bought it cash on the spot.

When buying a used car there is a big rule you dont break. for every $1,000 you spend you need to know that the car can give you 10,000 miles unscheduled matinence free. Basically anything over $200. Any money you might have to spend on matinence needs to be added to the total price. So the Rs would have to go 200,000. Its probaly could ,but not w/o matinence. A fair price for that car would be 10,000 if it was clean and obviously well taken care for. My dad uses this to buy all our cars and it works pretty good. We had a 90's legacy with 65,000. Bought it for 5,000 and got 140,000 miles out of it. Should of gotten more ,but my dumb ass bro ran it out of water and oil.
