Carbon Fiber parts.

Hello SLi!

Its been a while since I made a big public post. If you havn't noticed I am in the middle of a big track project for my BD chassis.

This is not going to be a group buy in any way I am just curious to see who is interested in carbon fiber parts for the BD and some for the BK/BG chassis.

I have to stress the importance that carbon molding does not take a few weeks it take a few months and is very expensive.

Items for the BD:
-Trunk
-STI Limited spoiler (thin small lipped spoiler custom made to fit BD trunks)
-rear deck lid (rear speaker board)
-C-pillars
-panel underneath the tail lights.

Items for BD/BK/BG
-Interior door panels (fronts mainly but maybe the rear as well)
-GT style side skirts (maybe BE GT style)
-OEM style mirrors (not covers)
-Shifter console w/ arm rest
-Dash w/ race inserts (no oem style center console, no dual DIN, just air vents and flat carbon fiber for switches and gauges)
--> the dash will not include the airbag compartment so it will just be filled over during the molding process.
--> unsure about glove box.
-Passenger A pillar (you can purchase a driver side gauge pod in carbon fiber for a GC and it will fit so no need to make one for the legacy)
-B-pillars
-Steering wheel column cover
-JDM S-type grille (open style with mesh)
-Sunroof insert
-Front scuff plates (like the S401 legacy)

I am in the middle of finishing my GD style fenders w/ flare and I am contemplating if I should get these made in carbon fiber as well.

Hrm... well a lot of the parts you've listed are pretty light to begin with... having had an entire BD apart before I doubt there's not much gain by replacing interior panels... and frankly fenders aren't that heavy. Hoods, hatches for SURE. Wing mirrors are pretty heavy too, but only because of the motors...manual mirrors are much lighter.

I'd be interested in some interior door panels and the hood/hatch thing. That's where I perceive the most amount of practical weight to be saved, other than seats.

If the guy on TSC is planing on making this stuff I talked to him about doing hoods for us. I would take a GT style hood with a latch all day. Next would be a JDM RS Legacy style trunk like mine so I can have my 3rd brake light in it. As for the other stuff I doubt I would be interested in it. MAYBE if the price was right. But it would be nice to see the stuff available for other people to purchase and I would help out and spread the word to make it happen. Let me know if and what you need.

I doubt I will get a hood made since I own a CarbonFX hood. Also I am creating these parts for "ME" so a few ounce panel made into carbon fiber is more "style" then function. But again my satin black track BD is going to be plastered in carbon since its my person taste.

Vince will not be making any of the carbon items since his minimum order is 5-10 items and with the track record of SLi and TSC thats going to be a big fat no. I have other private business who are willing to create one off items for me and duplicates if there is interest. Again I have no interest in making the hood since you have already made a "group buy" section for a hood from vince and no one is really intrested + I own one so I have no use to go through the motions. Also I have not seen the RS trunk before or at least I havn't noticed the differences so I will not be making a carbon version of that since I do not own one and I am not willing to ship a local members trunk to me in Canada.

Everyone is cheap and not willing to take part of R&D. This is one of the reasons I will not be mass producing any parts. I can not front the $$$ to take stock of carbon items.



Option 6. I'd rather not spend my money on the Legacy making it look like a NASIOCer's ride.
Strange how modifying a legacy makes your car into a "Nasiocer's ride" To each their own bud.

Whatever the case I have put out a list of items, if anyone is interested let me know. I have no plans on adding/changing/stocking any of these parts. Once there made I may have access to the molds in the future but no promises.

Post some pics of good looking Legacys with CF body parts. I'm not unwilling to change my opinion that a CF'd out car is for NASIOCers, just all the ones I've seen looked ricey to downright bad

i like the hood idea. as stated here before, that would cut a whole bunch of weight off, also i like the trunk idea actually that would look hot with the whole JDM full garnish setup.

Nothing for the front besides universal canards.. Maybe a flat sheet of carbon with 1-2" that extend past the bumper.

The rear is in the works. I have 02-03 rear aprons from a RS/WRX that don't fit my friends 04-05 rs. So i am going to heat them up and conform to the BD rear bumper. It may fit the BK/BG. if this works out well I will try to fit a 06 STi rear diffuser. If that works out then I'll probably get the the aprons made in carbon and just order a carbon 06 sti diffuser for a 200 or less.

i like the idea of doing those GD fenders in carbon fiber.. I would imagine you'd save a bunch of weight they're depending on what body work you had to do to begin with to get them to work.

Body work is slim to none. A bunch of spot welds and a very thin layer of fiber glass. A carbon fender may only weigh 1-4 ounces lighter then a metal fender. More form over function in this case.

And I'm tellin' you its a BD track car not a BK/BG. I have no use for a hatch since I will NEVER take a wagon on the track. Not my style therefore I wont front the R&D on a carbon version.

I might be interested in a trunk lid, and I would definitely be interested in a lip spoiler. Been looking (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1087982&highlight=lip+spoiler) for something along those lines for years!

The fraction of a percentage that have ruined my experience over there, both at meets and online. I'm not trying to start an argument, especially not about whether a car's appearance is indicative of the owner's personality. That's a matter of taste. As far as CF'd legacys, I'm still waiting to see good looking pics. :smile:
