i've got a leak that's pretty bad in the legacy.

the rear driver's side footwell fills up with water when it rains. from what i can tell, the window seal is making tight contact with the window. I haven't had the chance to take a hose to the car yet due to the cold temps but i'm looking for some input. (perhaps sombody else has had this problem?) also have not noticed any water under the floormat on the driver's side front. (we have the carpet pulled with just rubber floor mats currently)

any ideas?

Do you have a Sunroof by any chance?

Pull the front mudflap off and make sure the drain is clear - you may need to pull the fender liner off too.
Next up is to remove the fresh air intake cowling around the wiper arms, and pull out any debris lying back there.

i'll have to check the drain behind the mudflap. i've pulled the wiper cowl and pulled/blown (blow gun on a compressor) any debris i could get to under the wiper cowl.

where exactly is the drain behind the mudflap?

When I first bought my car in 11/07 it had this problem - every rain storm my passenger-side carpet would be SOAKED. A dozen months later my windshield cracked and had to be replaced. The guy who replaced it said the frame had rotted a little bit, but he was able to build up the area and seal it properly. This fixed my problem for the past year. After the past week's torrential rain storms it's back. : (

I checked under the cowl and it was completely clear of debris.

+1 for the windshield, most of the places that the insurance companies contract through do it for as cheap as they can. in my moms astro van at the top of the windsheild the weather stripping has a crack in it, so when ever it rains heavy or it snows and melts the windsheild leaks on the dash.

I would agree on the windshield, except that it is soaking the driver's rear footwell, not the front.

Is it wet anywhere else in the car? Water leaking in from the rear (taillights, weather stripping around hatch, etc) could potentially flow forward into the footwell, so maybe check for wetness in the back of the car too.
