Between my wife and I, we have 3 Subarus:
1998 Forester S
1996 Legacy L Sedan
1991 Legacy SS

The Forester is my wife's DD, the L is mine, and the SS is a project that I'm working on, slowly.
My mother in law wants to buy the L as well.

The car in question is a 99 Outback Limited, with a bad motor for cheap. I have a running EJ25D motor with fresh headgaskets
sitting in the shed that could go in. My wife's pregnant, so having more space would be a plus, but the Forester has been good for now.
I don't want to have to rely on the SS as a DD, since it's more of a fun weekend driver.

Thanks

If you have the capability to easily make the outback a reliable DD I say do it, it would be an upgrade to the L, especially if you have someone interested in buying it.

Sell the L, keep the OB and SS

You can never have too many cars. Even a nice Outback Limited these days can be picked up for well under $1k with a blown motor - do it!

Well I got the Outback Limited Wagon - 98, not 99 - I haven't messed with the engine yet but got all the small trim and other detail items it was missing, from the junkyard. My wife and I decided to sell the Forester if this turns out to be a good runner.
