Ok I HAVE posted my discovered answer as to why my cel is on in a different topic. When I got my 97 LSi it had a 2.2 in it. Factory the car comes with a 2.5. Needless to say the motor smoked like a coal locomotive. So I wanted the 2.5 back in it, Which I did...tho the 2.5 I got was from a 98 legacy outback. Everything was plug and play accept evap. When I thought evap was hooked up properly it wasn't. I pulled codes for knock sensor, bank one o2, and improper evap flow. I believe the 98 has the canister on the passenger rear. my 97 has it mounted up front. My problem here is I have no clue where to hook the evap canister up to. The Haynes manual I bought doesn't help me much. Fuel mileage is terrible, When it's cold the idle climbs and drops, and the exhaust smells like raw fuel. There are no vacuum leaks and every thing is closed on the system. Some diagrams or words of advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

I don't have the diagrams you need, but I will say that unless you have the evap lines hooked up in such a way that you are creating a constant vacuum leak, it won't cause the problems you describe. Even then, it wouldn't cause the bad gas mileage. You probably have another issue.

Well the canister at the moment isn't hooked up to any thing. But because it's not it's causing those two codes to be set off. Well i'd say its running rich and the computer knows it. Which is why the o2 sensor got pulled up. As for the knock sensor I kinda have an idea on the whole timing thing but I want to say that the evap sys has something to do with that. I think the whole problem is i'm getting too much fuel, so evap NEEDS to be hooked up. Seems iv stated the obvious but it's just that simple. It's all emissions, correct me if i'm wong on my theory.

And another thing the car shutters and when the motor is cold that sensor is ticking pretty loud, but not so bad when it gets warmed up. Though that may be because of it being in open loop, but I def don't think it should be as loud as it is.

I agree a disconnected evap shouldn't affect gas mileage, the solenoid only even opens every now and then when you're cruising at a constant engine speed. But yeah that's where the canister should be attached to, the solenoid.

There are already lines connected to it. Everything is closed off. :smt017
