Just a heads up, I'm brand new to the forum, and Subaru in general (just bought my 99 Legacy 30th anniversary wagon like 4 days ago) and I'm clueless whats going on with the stereo other than the doors take 6.5" speakers. My question is who makes a component speaker set that is a nice fit with the stock tweeter location and fit in the door without any clearance issues.
Thanks,
Karl

I used Alpine SPS-600C which are they components in my 98 sedan. They fit ok. Where a little deeper than the factory's, ended up using a spacer. But the tweeters fit in the factory bracket with minimal trimming.
But overall it wasn't that bad of an install.

So I just bought a set of Infinity 6030cs component speakers for the front. I already have the tweeters although I didnt have them stock and I havent hooked them up yet... but they are installed.
I have done wiring before but I have no clue when it comes to audio...
How is this install going to go down? I am going to be cutting and splicing wires directly into the back of my aftermarket head unit and wiring harness?
Or am I going to be doing the splicing on the wires in the doors and leaving the back of the headunit alone?
Am I going to have to run wires through my door boot no matter what or can I utilize the wires already running through there?
I have been searching for other peoples installs and my issue is that I have no aftermarket amp and I didnt plan on getting one.
Speakers will be here tomorrow and I would like to install them ASAP.
Thanks.

Are the tweeters noticeable?

I heard a difference after installing mine - music isn't quite as muddy sounding since you can still hear the highs.

So how did you install them? Did you just place the crossover in the door and cut/splice the wires in?
I am looking for some direction here.

If you have the OEM ones, then there is a plug for em in that general area under the door panel. It might be taped down to the wiring, but it's there.

Right... I know this.
I am wondering where I tap into the wiring... do I find the door side connectors and cut the end off, split the wires, run them each into the crossover and them run wires of of the crossover to the connectors?
I am just trying to figure out what specifically I am going to do when installing the component speakers.

So if I'm understanding you correctly, your car didn't come with the factory tweeters but you bought some and installed the mounts and covers but didn't actually wire the tweeters?
I have a JDM car with factory tweeters so I can only try to help as best I can, but if the above is true then you should simply be able to remove the OEM door speaker, cut the wire and hook that up to the input on the crossover, then run a wire from the tweeter out and woofer out of the crossover to the respective driver (the speakers you bought might come with some wiring?).
Then it's a matter of finding a place and method to mount the crossovers, I can't really help there cos I've never done it, but from what I've read if you mount them under the door cords you should probably wrap them in a sandwich bag or something to protect them from water, otherwise you can mount them inside the door pocket which requires you to thread the wires through and may be a little tricky.
Oh, there's also the matter of trying to mount the Infinity tweeters in the stock location if that's what you want. They're all a bit different and some will be able to screw right in, some will need to be taped or glued, some will be too big and the mount/case will need modifying, that's something you should look at before you begin.
Does that make sense?
Hope it helps.
