Hello everyone,

I am a senior at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. I own a couple of turbo Zs. I really like fast RWD cars, but last week we got a huge snow and I got to play in my roommate's GC impreza and I loved it. Also having 2 RWD coupes is incredibly daft, so I want something a bit more practical.

I'm looking at buying my boss' 97 Legacy Outback LSi Wagon [auto :( but it has a EJ25 :)]

I got on here to look for suspension swap info and looking at your cars for ideas. If I get it, I will probably do some GC RS suspension mods, GG WRX wheels, and then try to find a 5 Speed tranny/drivetrain. A CLSD R180 would be sick

I am a pic whore, here are my Zs:

Hey the LSI is a good choice. I'd recommend getting what you want to begin with to begin with - ie. a 5-spd.

Yep, don't mod what you can buy stock. ;)

Very nice! I love your Z's. Someday I want to own a '88 Z31 Shiro version.

The only reason I would ever have the heavier auto LSi is because I might get an incredible deal on one from my boss. If I had my choice I would get a 2.5 + 5 speed legacy, but this deal is too good to pass up. If it goes through I'll explain the situation. It's only got 100,000 miles on it as well.

Also, I'm no stranger to working on cars, and I'm excited to work on something new and different. I'd only do the 5 speed/diff swap if it was cheap and worth it.

I don't know if there is Impreza hate here but it could be a nice donor for a GC :D

lol don't get a Shiro. They have viscous LSDs. All the other 'kouki' Turbo Z31s [87-89] had Clutch LSDs. They do look good though :) Thanks for the kind words on my cars!

Welcome brother. 5sp swaps are a little iffy... it has been done numerous times but most people seem to say it's just worth it to wait and find a factory 5sp car because it's fairly labor intensive. But, by all means, don't let that discourage you. If this Outback is in such good shape, do it! You've got two Zeds to drive while you work.

Nice S30 and Z31 by the way. Never driven a S30 but I have driven two Z31s (both NAs: one stock, one modded and loud/fast). I never did like the steering feel of them though...

I will know this weekend [I think] about the Outback.

I am no stranger to car work, I have had nearly every piece off of my S30 except the dash and windshield. It's had 3 different motors, right now I'm running a 'high compression' N/A block. I attribute it not blowing up to my conservative spark tables, and I have a HEAVY right foot.

As it sits now: [I have converted to an electric fan and cleaned up the wiring]

I am putting on a new shaved intake mani, new o-ring fuel rail and 390cc injectors next weekend :D

Sorry to get off topic :(

Anyways, as you can tell this car is mostly fun only in the summer, so I am looking forward to a car that will be a blast in inclement weather.

ahhh, you mean Arkansas... I was thinking you meant University of Alberta, up in Canada.. I'm selling my WRX STi ver (94) in the next couple of months because I've got a 94 Leggy RS coming in, and the wife says 3 subies is too many.. I was gonna offer a chance for a fast ride..

Okay I went to give the car a good look over and drive it after I did some research.

It's not a 97, it's a 98 or 99.

It looks just like this, but the two-tone is darker, and the "fog lamp area" isn't body coloured, it's dark grey:

It's a Legacy Outback, not an LSi. It's an auto with a EJ25, grey leather seats, those 5 spokes ^^ and some wood-grain interior pieces.

102k miles, everything works perfectly, the interior is great. The bumpers are a bit scraped up, but I like it better that way. I'm going to be messing around in this thing ALOT. I'll get some pics when I actually seal the deal.

If I get it in time, I am going to take it up to Salem, MO for the 100 Acre Wood Rally. I was planning on going anyways but I was going to be riding in my buddy's 99 2.5 RS.

The suspension is really soft, but everything else is great on it, I'm pretty excited about getting it. I'll probably park the Z31 for a while up at the shop, I might sell it, I haven't decided.
