Well people, i already have a thread in the rides section which deals with the car as it is. I also have a thread about my 5 speed conversion....but this didnt really belong in either so i have thus created a new thread in which i plan on discussing the mods i have planned. I figured you guys would appreciate hearing about it as i seem to be getting a lot of contact about my work with the H6.

Heres a little youtube link of my last event (2nd place overall :D)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD4FqeId ... re=channel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD4FqeId5Js&feature=channel)

As some of you know - i like to drive my car really hard. To be fair i do look after it and i do use a good degree of mechanical sympathy. But quite often i like to absolutely thrash the balls off the poor thing.
It is for this reason that owning a EJ20 twin turbo model would not be the best idea, they do NOT tolerate abuse well from what ive seen.

So far ive lowered it by installing some H&R springs onto the bilstein struts. Ive fitted slotted rotors and high temperature brake pads (with fluid to match). Ive upgraded the front brake calipers to STI 4 piston ones. Ive converted it from an automatic transmission to manual and ive done some electronic trickery with the stereo and ECU and other small things not really worth mentioning here.

But now - Its time for more power.

Ive considered adding some spicier cams.....but thats too much like hard work for not enough gain. Ive considered bolting in a different engine, but thats also a lot of hard work when for the same money as I could build a nice EJ20 or EJ25 - i could do some interesting things with what ive got.

So after much consideration of options such as adding a supercharger, swapping for an EG33, changing heads to later model AVCS ones....i have decided that the most efficient way for me to add some power to the beast is to turbocharge it.

Im currently in the process of procuring a pair of TD04H turbos for the car. These turbos are standard equipment on some later model Subarus and are often discarded in favor of a larger unit. They are perfectly capable of pushing 150kw each and so a pair should fit my power goals for this engine.

To start with, i will be replacing the rods and pistons to bring my compression ratio down. I had considered running a high comp/low boost setup but was put off by the feeble looking H6 rods (graphic shamelessly stolen from perrin);

With airsoft proof being the H6 and bulletproof being STI rods.

My plan is to limit the setup to 250kw at the wheels at first. Then later on once its all comfortably run-in and im happy with the tuning, i will throw the TD04 turbos away and fit a pair of VF24/28 or something similarly sized - to see what the motor can actually do. Im also going to limit the power to 250 as i believe that is all the standard transmission is capable of handling.

The motor will be run by a Link G3 ECU from Link New Zealand. They already have good base tunes and i really like the service of their company and the fact the crank/cam trigger wheels are already mapped.

Im still deciding on where im going to mount the turbos. I originally wanted to mount both on the passenger side (left side) where the primary turbo normally sits on the twin turbo cars. Mounting both turbos next to each other is an attractive solution as it makes upgrading to a single later on much easier. It also allows me to join both downpipes and both compressor outlets and inlets to make plumbing very simple. However this setup would make for a very long exhaust run between the heads and turbines. /So im still open to suggestions on that front.

This week ive had all of the interior out of the car and im cleaning up oil spills and slowly working my way through soundproofing and anti-rattleising everything. I still havnt got reliable full time work so the rest of the project is on temporary hold and is being completed as funds become available. The next thing im purchasing is the pair of turbos as i fell this will help motivate me and allow me to do some mock ups.

Ive seen and read about a lot of turbo work done with the later model EZ30 but not many people seem to play with the earlier ones. Or if they are playing with them - they arent writing about it.

Comments and questions welcome

Plan B is to buy an EJ257 shortblock from Subaru and use that instead. To be honest, after todays discoveries....it looks like this is way im going to have to go as i cant find enough rooms to mount 2 turbos and run all the exhaust work.

Just mount one bigger turbo and go with that, relocate your battery to the hatch to make space. Do it!

Plan C is to follow my original plan A which was to add a low pressure supercharger.

At this point i honestly dont know which route im going to go down. But unfortunately i think a turbo H6 setup is out of the question as its just far too damned expensive.
