hello im new to this forum and new to the subaru life ha. but seriously i had a nissan 300zx and i just bought a 2007 subaru legacy 2.5i limited and i love the car but i was offered an extended warranty from the dealer for an extra 120 a month for 18 months coming out to 2160 in total im only 17 and i make my own payments. i am i mechanic and work at a very big honda and i know my way around cars but if a computer goes on this car then thats about 3k rite there and i cant reprogram. like i can replace a trans for engine or what ever mechanical work but is an awd computer, ecu/pcm goes theres not much i can do. but the catch is that the coverage is for only 3 years and im planning on having the car for at least 5 maybe 4 and im already counting my pennies to make payments and insurance. i can afford the extended warranty but its going to be hard those 18 months. does anyone think its worth it? has anyone had any problems with their 07 legacy? thank you guys :?:

If you work at a dealership you should know that ECU's don't just "go out"...
Don't pay for an extended warranty if you're handy with the wrench.
Oh, and you should NEVER make payments on a vehicle if you have to scrape and skimp to get by... you're just inviting Murphy to move in and sleep on the couch with you.

Forget the warranty and put the $120 into a savings account every month.

If you want extra money in the bank, don't buy a car payment. Buy a cheap beater car - if you work for a Honda dealership this should be a no-brainer - and stash the extra money in the bank.
PS. If you invest consistently, by the time you are 26 you'll be a millionaire. Don't make the same mistake I did, click the link in my sig to find out how to do it.

1st, I'd like to say congratulations on your purchase.
2nd, I want to remind you that you work at a dealer and see the average mileage where issues begin.
3rd, warranties are only useful if you're gonna stay %100 stock in most cases
4th, I'd spend less than your $2g's+ on reviving my cars maintenance every 2 years. IE. timing belt/fluid flushing etc... If you car has less than 60k on it, you should be covered by the manufactures warranty.
and I have the phrase in my sig, cause I believe "some" warranties are a waste. I do all my maintenance and find that I saved hundreds if not thousands a year. Sometimes I've noticed people have warranties they've paid for, but never used.

Don't bother with the extended warranty. Especially not that one, since that is absurdly overpriced. $120 a month for a warranty is outrageous. If you are that concerned about your car breaking down and costing you a fortune, take that $120 you would be spending for that warranty and put it in a rainy day fund. My bet is that at the end of the 18 months of what would have been your warranty coverage, you'll have $2160 in the bank, or very close. You are pretty unlikely to have to do any major repairs to a 07 unless you don't maintain it.
BTW--there is no way a Subaru PCM would cost you $3000 unless it took out the engine when it failed lol. I'd say $1000 tops if you took it to a Subaru dealer.
