When it says 70... does that mean 70% light through?

Mine has legal front windows and illegal the rest of the way around. Mines 30% front and 20% the rest of the way. I have a light green interior though, so it looks lighter in light. I like it lots!

RI is 70% all around, I have 35% on the sides 20% on the rear. I had them tinted 4 years now. Just got my first ticket for it last month

no no no no no....
70%. 70% of the light must shine through. that's about 30% tinted from no tint at all. that's not a whole lot. and don't touch the windshield.

I dont have it tinted at all, so I would be pretty happy with 30%
and trust me I know about the windshield, my buddies learned the hard way

Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 30% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 30% of light in.
Rear Window Must allow more than 30% of light in.
So, if I'm understanding this correctly, I could get 69% tint, but 70% would be illegal in Indiana.

Nope. 70% tint rating would indicate that you're letting 70% of the light in. So you could have 30% tint, but 29% would be illegal.

so, a lower number is darker?

I get it now, it just seems weird that 100% tint is a clear window.

I get it now, it just seems weird that 100% tint is a clear window.
Because it lets 100% of the sunlight through. 15% only lets in 15% of light.

Here in Vancouver (Canada) I am rocking limo-tint (5%) on my back 5 windows.
You can have tint on the rear windows if you have two exterior mirrors and the lowest you can (legally) go is 5%.

I am in Maryland and I have 20% Tint on all my windows except the windshield of course. I have been pulled over for speeding maybe 7 or 8 times in the past two years and they never say anything. Maybe they just take it easy on me because I am driving a station wagon.

according to that chart, an MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) can have any tint on side and back windows.
Also according to that site, under chart explanations,
" MPV: Multi Purpose Vehicle, a vehicle with motive power, except a trailer, designed to carry ten people or less that is constructed either on a truck chassis or has special features for occasional off-road operation."
Ummmm ..... AWD= occasional off-road operation

I noticed something interesting in the illinois tinting laws.
. If you have an MPV, which include but are not limited to, SUVs, Station Wagons, minivans, Toasters, etc., and said MPV has factory installed privacy glass (smoked), you are allowed to have up to 50% tint in front.

i think they mean scion by toaster ? i have factory tint on my car ( i think) but it makes the car look so much better and it stands out more than the other leggys without it :D idk if its legal or anything tho its California any mods on a car are illegal
edit: California has to have 70% on the front sides but the rest of the car can be at whatever level

I am wondering the same but for sedans.... also would anybody know of a good place in the chicago land area?

yeah $250 sounds about right. i got 5% all around and a pretty nice strip on the windshield. you can pretty much tint your windows as dark as you want except for the two front passenger windows and windshield but it looks great when theyre tinted all around

So apparently in PA you can't have ANY tint on your windows. I've had friends that had to remove their tint in front of the cops so they don't get a fine! Not sure if thats true or if the cops in my area are fags. They are dumb, but maybe there going to far.

Just to clarify - there can be 2 limits - VLT (light transmittance) and reflectivity (both stated in %). Some states only have VLT limits, some have reflectivity limits ("only" or "as well"). Check here... (http://windowtintlaws.org/)
I did 18% all around (except windshield of course!) and love the look of it, especially on my white wagon. It's technically illegal in Colorado, but I've even asked a cop I know, and he said that you can still see through it so I shouldn't get any crap about it. Legal limit here is 27%, and it's a noticeable difference, but I took the risk since my son was being blinded in his car seat with no tint at all.
