Well guys, here is my new project car. I was driving a 94 honda civic dx, but than winter hit and i needed another Subie. So i searched around and found this 98 L for fairly cheap.

So far i have to say, i love it!! I already own a 2004 Legacy, buts its an auto and more the family car than a play car. lol. My plans are to build an NA 22e motor, i know its not the best, but its what my budget allows, and run the car for a while. The car runs great right now, gotta go in for a TB change, no service records from PO and the car has 153,000. So i aint risking it.

I picked up another 22e for $100. Not bad shape, under 92,000 miles. But still gonna get torn down completely.

I also disassembled the intake mani for paint and to make it easier to mock up the turbo and tmic i plan to add.

Sadly, progress is slow right now as i am doing alot of this work in a corner of my apartment. I dont have a garage right now, but i will hopefully soon.

i cant wait to see this evolve. its sweet starting with an L hood so you can just buy a WRX scoop and fab it up.
keep us up to date with this one for sure :)

I am not sure what i am gonna do about the hood, Its a little messed up on the front of it. I was thinking about getting a GT hood but thats still up in the air right now.

So i have started to gather some parts, I recently got a TD04 turbo, EJ22t up pipe and mount, and a 02-05 tmic. I cant wait to start the rebuild of my spare motor. I ordered a set of turbo pistons for it. And gonna look into some machining services today. Hopefully i can at least get that part done.

Yes that was your turbo, thanks again for it. I cant wait to start getting everything mocked up. BUt the weather sucks here right now. Right now its blowing snow and almost a blizzard. But the Leggy gets around just fine
Were they 22T pistons, or something else? I can't recall the differences on the top, but for some reason didn't recall those as 22t's... if I had ever worked with them I might :smt010

Yea they are 22t pistons, the dish in the top is alot more than the na motors. I will try to get a pick when i tear the NA motor in the next couple days. So it will lower the compression on the motor. From what i remember the compression ratio on my NA motor is 9.2:1-9.7:1, i have seen a couple different answers. And the 22t motors run a considerably smaller compression ratio to be boost happy. lol.

Stock CR is 9.7:1
You can run a little boost on it. Theres a guy on RS25.com that has over 200,000MILES on a stock EJ22 and is running 12psi on it for well over a year without any problems.

You can run 5 psi on stock internals no problem. Just make sure you've got a bigger fuel pump and a way to add more fuel up top.

well, the only internals that will be stock 22e stuff is the crank and rods.i am running an older 92 22e, and from what i have read those are the same as the 22T motor. And i am replacing the 22e pistons for 22t pistons so i should be able to run quite a bit more than 5psi of boost. I see the 22t motors running anywhere from 10-18psi. The big thing is the 22t has the closed deck block. I am running the 22e open deck block. So i will just be careful with and start out with a little boost, and go from there. No matter what it will be a fun car. I just want to get it going so i can go beat up on my buddys 09 civic si. which is completely stock. He still says he will be faster.

So i have been a little slow on the motor work lately. The weather hasn't been very nice to work in lately. But i was able to get a new set of headlights, side markers, and GT spoiler from another board member. I still gotta paint the spoiler, but it looks good. Alot better than the stock L trunk lid.

I had a wingless trunk. lol. And i really like the subtle style of the wing. I really just wanted an accent to the car. Nothing major.
The car has come to kind of a halt right now. I was mocking up the turbo, up pipe, and intercooler this last weekend and when doing that i had to relocate the wiring on the passenger side of the motor. Well, the wires for my speed sensor where so brittle they just snapped off at the top so i couldn't fix it. So i had to use the money i had save for some machine work to get a new one. Kinda sucks that the only one i could find was at the dealership. Oh well, shit happens.

The speedo sensor wasn't bad. Around $140 with tax. As far as exhaust i plan to use a wrx bell mouth downpipe. With custom bent 2.5 inch. Back to a Skunk 2 muffler i've had laying around. I was thinking about 3 inch but i dont plan on needing that.

So i had to spend some time at the in laws house this weekend. Which was a good thing cause i was able to use a garage. lol. I redid some wiring on the car that was making the intercooler not sit right. This is what happens when you have pure boredom and a garage.

It was cheap ebay shit. lol. And i know some people have had good luck and some people have had bad luck with ebay down pipes, but i am trying to save some money just to get it going than once that is done i will get a name brand one if anything happens to this one.
