Hood bug deflector install issues

Hey everyone!
I'm new here, when I have an extra minute I'm going to post pics of my 95 dark blue sedan.
I just need a bit of help. I purchased a hood bug deflector for my legacy last week and tried to install it today. Everything went well until I tried to close the hood! It just wouldn't close! I took the deflector off and it closed fine. I know it's not the screws because they're not sticking out. I really want this! (to cover my many rock chips)
let know if there is something I didn't do or should do to get the hood to close right.

Do you have a Subaru genuine deflector? I have, installed it on two diff cars without issue.

Here are some photos. Sorry for the REALLY low quality....camera phone...all I have.

All I did was snap it on and and make new holes and screwed it in. When I went to close it it just wouldn't go, even when I pushed on it (nicely)

You shouldn't have to make new holes. The holes for the screws that hold the deflector on are already tapped into your hood. I imagine that's the problem there then.

I'll take a look this afternoon and let you know. I looked for hole though and when I lined up the deflector I didn't see any holes where I figured I would so I added them. Do you have any photos?

No instructions, it was used. Iy looks like you changed you grill. I have a stock grill....could that be preventing it from closing?

Nope - look again at my pics - stock and aftermarket grills on two different cars.

The holes that you use are (I think) under the rubber gasket part... I will see if I can take some pics for you.

I was looking at it again this afternoon and notice that there is NO room between the hood and the grill. Not even the small amount needed for the deflector. Any ideas? Should I cut away a groove in the top of the grill to make it fit?

I got it! I think I was screwing it too tight taking away some of it's flex...

also just a tip be carfull when closing the hood i seen many people that just drop them thinking it will help lock the hood better.more secure and they end up snapping the plastic that raps under the hood. post some pics of it when you get it done..

looks good i think what did you mean bye dosent sit right is it rubbing/binding some where? maybe little adjustment to surrounding body part like if grill is rubbing or head light etc.
over all i think it looks nice and should provide you with some good protection chiping etc. i myself have been looking into the clear-bra stuff some local places use like a 3M clear tape looking stuff to cover like 5" section along the front of the hood and front of fenders/headlights and mirrors. but then i have heard someone using a 5M not sure what it is ill research it/also another local place say they have a spray on protectant where they spray a 2 foot sections hood front rear bumbpers etc. ill do more research if you guys like.

That bug deflector is for an IMPREZA. Specifically, 95-01.

Look at the bug deflector on my Legacy - it wraps around the hood. The Impreza versions don't - that's why the bug guard doesn't fit right.

Mine is by GTO and it doesn't wrap all the way down the hood and over the fenders like yours (Huffe's) does. Mine is more like the one the OP posted, but it still fits great and is for a Legacy. Its possible his rubber trim under the hood was too thick when coupled with the bug guard. I don't have any rubber under my hood so it wasnt an issue. That crap is long gone :)
