He is convinced that i cant do anything to my car. I should have bought an evo or an sti. because wagons are not made for performance.

So i sent him this....

(picture props to my friend on flat4va.com)

And he was like your just wasting your money.
Idk maybe its just me, but if i wanted an sti i would have bought one, i wanted the wagon coz not many people see them tuned. And when you do, its an eye catcher. oppose to the everyday eyecatchers.

to be honest your friend is right in a way but you can make a wagon perform. its just that much harder. i love my wagon i can have a car that i can throw my buddies in and all there gear and go to the mountains + get ok mpg. i love being different and theres nothing looks better then a slammed wagon.

If this were any other car manufacture you would be right. However subaru has kept the cookie cutter mentality since the early 90's. There is no REAL difference between a subaru sedan and wagon.

They both "can" use the same parts as there performance brothers. They are designed all from a sedan chassis.

The only difference is the added weight from the glass and sheet metal.

That is interesting considering that if you walked into a Subaru dealership now and wanted to buy an STi this is what you're going to get:

Yeah, Subaru has had a good Sport Wagon following since the early 90's with the turbo Legacy wagon (Touring Wagon). Not only that, as I recall.... The wagons actually have a little better weight distribution. Subarus are a little nose heavy and the added weight in The back makes it better balanced(close to 50/50 if I remember... Could be wrong though). Just needs a little stiffening. Lol plus, as people have said before, not many people mod them, and they are different.

Depends on your definition of performance?

I know plenty of wagons that will do a 11-12sec quarter mile, then load up and head to the country for some skiing or camping. Not many sedans or coupes can do the same. I call that performance.

Your friend prefers "store bought" performance over built performance. While your friend runs around with the rest of the sheep, you are building a wolf.

Wagons if done right is the ultimate sleeper. I've gotten put down so many times just because I own a wagon. I really don't care what other people think. I'm just happy that I can handle better than most cars on an autocross course.

My wagon:

i REALLY like that reasoning...reason. xD (pun intended) haha

But i just love the wagon, coz i can actually travel. When i had my sc400 i couldnt take people anywhere, i could hold anything in the car, and i have always wanted a wagon, so i got the wagon after i hit a tree in the 400. :(
Ive been happier with the legacy than what i was with the 400

finally someone who has done the math. thanks for posting that iv always wondered that. in that case the wagon has more performance in corning becasue of better 50/50 weight distribution.

Subaru still makes the sedan for 2010? I don't understand why? both the sedan and hatch have 4 doors.

That's where I don't understand subaru reasing. Ok, you rumor for years that you want a Sti as a hatch for the WRC and when you do come out with it. You pull off of WRC. Yea that makes tons of sense.

I like the Hatch Sti's, but i still think Subaru die in 05.

^^what why. have you driven the new cars!! iv driven the legacy 08 spec.b and the 09 sti and i love those cars. i still need to get into a 09+ but being a 19 year old kid its alittle hard to go to any dealer and just go test drive. my buddy has a 09 sedan that has a few upgrades i want to get in.

the only reason that Subaru pulled out of WRC was because WRC changed the rules. now you have to have a inline four cylinder in order to compete in the WRC not an opposing four like our amazing Subaru have and they did not want to compromise and change there engine design. and thats is the only reason subaru is out of WRC.

just so you know.

People like your friend are one of the big reasons why I bought my car. I wanted to BUILD (not buy) a fast, AWD, turbocharged car. I was going to get a 98-01 RS, but after I looked more, 1) they are too expensive for what they are and 2) they are becoming cookie cutter cars (sorry to the rs owners on here, but its true). So, I decided on the Legacy since its effectively the same chassis as the Impreza (but longer), so there are a LOT of parts available, and it is a fantastic looking car. And while there is a small group of highly modified 2G Legacies out there, they are certainly not common.

Another big reason I bought my car is because I bought a "fast out of the box" car before, thinking that it would be "good enough" that I didn't feel like I needed to make it better. Wrong. Ended up selling it because I didn't feel like paying a car payment for a car that I wasn't happy with.

BTW, the difference between a wagon and a hatchback is like splitting hairs. The only reason that all the "hot hatches" out there aren't called wagons is because there is a stereotype attached with the word wagon, and that is that that wagons can't perform well, the exact stereotype that your friend is perpetuating.

The fact that everyone knows what a WRX is makes driving the turbo BK around even more entertaining. With my big 3" exhaust there is no mistaking the boxer rumble - I have gotten all sorts of comments when I roll up to establishments where people hear the car, look out the window expecting to see a "Subaru" and a wagon rolls up

Yes but not the STi, it's hatch/wagon only.

True there will always be people who insist on having a boot so Subaru is going to keep making sedans. But I was commenting on the idea:

Because when Subaru sat down to create a "performance" WRX model they made it a hatch/wagon so there's your wagon made for performance...

And then there's the land speed record...

On April 23, 1998, a Generation III Subaru Legacy set a new world speed record for mass-produced turbocharged station wagons with small engines (1600 cc-2000 cc class), clocking 270.532 km/h (168.101 mph) over one kilometer on Highway 10 in La Junta, Colorado.
