Swapping 97 EJ25 into 98 EJ22?

So i have a 98 legacy with EJ22 and I just purchased a 97 legacy GT with a EJ25

is the EJ25 just bolt right in and are the ECU's just plug and play? Do I have to change any harness'?

What concerns me is the swap from SOHC to DOHC!

The engine bolts right in. All EJ engines will bolt to all EJ trans. The 2.2 ECU will 'run' the ej25, but to be the utmost in reliability, swap over the ECU. And I'm pretty sure the 2.2 and phase I 2.5 ECUs are plug and play... I could be wrong.

this is kind of a stupid but if I wannted to do this backwards, 2.2L in a 2.5L would it work... thanks

The 98 2.2 has single port exhaust and the 2.5 has dual port.

I have put 95 2.2 dual ports into 97 Outback and 98 Forester and they were both plug and play.
