im posting this link to an abc news special that i believe everyone should at least watch many of us know how to read a tire and how to pick tires but for those who have no idea this will educate you and help you avoid being a statistic to the many who have died from faulty tires.

Yep, works for me as well.

Back in 08, a buddy I have works at a parts warehouse where he can get tires on the cheap. So, he orders me a set of 4. 2 come in, dated from 08. The other 2 came from 04!
Thankfully he actually noticed first, and had all 4 sent back before they even accepted the order to his place. The company claimed they had no knowledge of 4 year old tires being sold in their warehouse, and it was clearly a "supplier issue."

I think there are more variables in tires failing not just due to age. It could be alignment, tire pressure, and rotation of tires. Most people often don't check tire pressure and make sure their car has a good alignment.

I have a friend who has r.comp tires that are 8 years old and he's still running them in events.

depends on how the tires are stored. New tires that are stored in a climate controlled, no UV/sunlight area, tirerack says is good for up to 10 years.

+1 on psi, I can't tell you how many schmucks I see on the road with clearly an underinflated tire. You're more likely to get a blowout or dent your rim from that than from supposedly old tires. But its just the mentality that people think theyre the best driver ever and its never their fault when bad stuff happens...I guess that's why TPMS is now federally mandated on all new cars.

I'd say its actually because of the effect that underinflated tires have on vehicle emissions. The increased safety by giving people an indicator that they haven't inspected their vehicle for so long that their tire pressures are now low is just a fringe benefit.

I agree though. Drivers are a tire's worst enemy. I see so many cars come in with tires that are bald on the outside, nearly new on the inside on they have 15-20psi in each tire. These are usually the same cars that are 10k over on their oil change.
