Cruise/ABS Problem on 2nd gen legacy

First off, hey everyone, i'm new to the boards and new to owning a subaru. I just bought a 1997 Legacy L Wagon. On a side note, i just bought jdm headlights for it and I think i'll be able figure that out thanks to your guy's good write ups. Anyways, the abs light is on and the cruise control doesn't work. Now I understand from the fuse box that those two things are on the same circuit, but the fuse seems to be ok. Forgive me if someone has already posted this or I missed something along the lines but is there a link to a wiring diagram that I could follow to make sure there isn't a weak point in the wiring and/or does anyone have any suggestions on what it might be?

check out my sig and download the 'FSM' aka factory service manual. its all you will ever need. If your abs is stuck on like that.. could be one of your wheel sensors is faulty or something along those lines. Have you tried scanning the car using an OBD-2 scanner? Go to like an autozone or pepboys or something along those lines and ask to use their obd2 scanner. If they need to do it for you.. just make sure you get the codes it reads off it. Sounds like a strange problem though.. my other LGT use to randomly work with the cruise sometimes completely random.. i never figured it out.

Thank you for the link and advice. I'll see if I can figure something out, also autozone said their odb-II reader didn't check abs codes and they don't have one to loan out. Does that make sense? I'll try a different shop as well. Anyways, thanks for the help.

thats true.. they probably cant scan the ABS unless its throwing a CEL light too. Hmm.

I was hoping that since they run through the same fuse that it would just be something simple, but i do not get that kind of luck

mine has the same i cant figure out how to fix it either but mine is blowing the fuse every time and ive check as much wire as i can and i cant seem to find the short.

most likely one of the wheel sensors or it's wiring is damaged.

check the FSM
remove each sensor and test it (it gives you a resistance reading)
generally it's the wiring that's damaged on the rear trailing arms.

also, the cruise will not work if the ABS has issues or other vital systems on the car

my brothers 99 SUS had a wheel bearing go bad, and it chewed up the abs sensor and the whole hub had to be replaced. but the abs sensor was never replaced and now 3-4 years later it still does not have abs.
