1998 Subaru Legacy GT 2.5 engine swap info needed please

Hello all,

New to the forum and eager to jump and and learn a few things. First off I have a 1998 Subaru Legacy GT 2.5 - Auto - 230,000 miles. Just diagnosed a bad head gasket on the motor. I was going to pull it out and do the work and started looking into other options. Found a 2003 2.5 with 125,000 miles or so on it, including the transmission for a good price. Didn't think it bolted right in but not 100% sure. Trying to find out if this engine would work and if it did and ECU change or other problems I may run into? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

that motor will not work, might bolt in, but you would play hell trying to get the electronics worked out.

the 2.5 your looking at would be single overhead cam, and your 2.5 is DOHC

i would try to locate a 96-99 2.5
