Speed sensor woes

Hi all. I need some help from someone with a 5-spd. I recently swapped the trans on my car from auto to 5-spd, and its working great aside from a non-functional speedo. This is because I don't have any speed sensors hooked up, because the trans I got was from an Impreza, not a Legacy, and it had a speedo cable not a sensor. It looks as though the sensor should screw right in (has the same size threads and the key on the end is the same) but I only see one spot for a speed sensor, yet everything I'm reading shows 2. However, I can only find 1 style of sensor to purchase new (the 2 wire style.) So, what I need, if possible, is pictures/descriptions of where each of the sensors are, and how many wires. Also, it would be great to know what the function of each of the sensors is. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the reasoning why the vehicle would need 2 speed sensors in the transmission when it already has 1 on each wheel.

First we need to know what transmission it is. D1giphux has a service manual too that could probablt tell you... or call the a dealer...

I looked at the service manual already, it only lists the speed sensor 2 from what I could see.

The trans is a 5-spd from a 95 Impreza L AWD. Had a 2.2, so it has the 3.9 final drive. Let me know if you need more.

Just as an update to this...

On BDs with a 5MT, there is only one speed sensor on the transmission, on the passenger front. On vehicles with the 2 wire magnetic speed sensor (like my 98 had, I believe the changeover was somewhere in mid 98 model year between the 2 wire and 3 wire sensor), the speed sensor from the 4EAT will fit just fine and plug in directly. The only difference between the 5MT sensor and the 4EAT sensor is that the 5MT sensor has a pigtail on it to make up for the difference in position (it is located further back). You can still reuse the 4EAT sensor, you just have to split open the harness and extract the 2 wires for the speed sensor. 5 minute job tops. And, if you use a trans from an older model that uses a speedo cable rather than a sensor (like me, mine's from a 96 Impreza) the speed sensor will appear not to fit. It will fit, but there is a rubber coated metal spacer that sits in the bottom of the opening that needs to come out. It is an interference fit, but it can be pryed out with a small screwdriver.

Next up, getting my cruise and ABS to work again ... lol
