Braided brake lines for a 2.5 BE/BH (4 discs)

Hi,

I'd like to replace my brake lines (it's a 10 year old car after all) and while I'm at it, I'd like to fit steel braided lines (maybe they'll improve the brake feel a little).

I'm looking at Goodridge, but they don't list my exact model. They do list these:

PS: The Legacy B4 kit includes 6 hoses, the rest only 4. Why does the B4 require 6 hoses?

Maybe I should've mentioned that mine is a BH - a wagon... If there are differences.

dont go goodridge. pm reason he is the forum owner and vendor. he can get you some techna-fits for a good price. also techna-fit can come in diff colors if you want.

the goodridges do not have a coat over them so they will corrode

Really? I had Goodridge brake lines on my previous bike and they were coated.

Their web site also says: On selected products you can choose a coloured cover for the lines. As standard lines will come with a clear coating, coloured lines will add £1.00 per line and be treated as a special order.

I have goodridge lines, 2 midwest winters of heavy salt and they still look like new. They're called STAINLESS STEEL braided lines for a reason. Anyway, coated lines tend to trap dirt and silt in between the coating and the braided steel at the fitting ends, eventually the abrasion between the two surfaces will just get the coating off anyway. Some people even say the dirt particles are small enough to get underneath the braids and cause abrasion of the TEFLON line underneath the braids (the teflon line is what actually holds your brake fluid, the ss braid is just to protect it) this of course means brake line failure. With coated lines, you can't really inspect the lines for any damage to the braids or the teflon underneath, hence why I know at least 3 wrx rally guys that prefer to use unbraided lines because there's no real advantage to run coated AND they can inspect their brake lines properly.

I think coated vs. noncoated is just another one of those overemphasized non-issues that gets thrown around on every car forum. Get whichever one you think looks good. The only reason there's a coating in the first place is to prevent the braids form cutting into any other component if it rubs on it (you'd think this would be impossible but I have a scored wheel that can prove this true :lol:, as well as an A/C line that's been rubbing up on the braids of my fuel rails :roll: ). this of course can be avoided by just making sure the lines don't rub on anything.
