can it go bad from running a cone filter vice the stock box assembly? finally got my CEL code figured out...do i need to replace the sensor? or will re-installing the stock box assembly help?

an over-oiled pod filter can cause issues with clogging the sensor.

pull it out and spray the sensor and plugs with Electrical Contact Cleaner (No-Residue) leave it to dry for a few minutes, repeat then re-install.

Get the MAF cleaner stuff they sell at autozone or something.. it works really good. Looks like this:

You have an AA160, I believe. He needs an AA310.

This mechanism operates a number of contacts. When the air flow valve is opened, the pump starts and stops when the flap closes. One of the most common errors of measurement of the flow in this order is reversed: instead of the selected sensor, which is conducted properly, trying to justify the use of the device, because it is cheaper.

To clean do as Rob suggested.

imo you should stay well away from oiled type after market pod filters. they're notorious for fouling up the subaru afm's. use a dry paper type like the APEXi Power Intake, Blitz SUS Power or HKS Super Power 3 layer foam filters as they won't cause any issues with the afm

The problem with the oil type filters is that most people over oil them. You don't over oil, you don't get any MAF issues.
