My Legacy got hit in the parking lot today at school. I go to school in the burbs where its a bunch of (and this is fact, not a generalization) rich suburb kids who got their license and brand new cars ASAP because mommy and daddy want to make them happy. I back into a spot in the lot and my nose was not sticking out at all. I get out of class and what do I find? A HUGE brown scratch on my front bumper. I’m guessing it was someone trying to back out of their spot and just cut the wheel too much and scraped my car.. but come on! I’m a poor college student, I don’t have money to be spending on a paint job and body work. I’m deathly afraid of entering that parking lot.. people fly around there at 40 mph and never look where they're going.. and their parking skills are beyond horrible. Sometimes I wonder how certain people get their license.

To summarize: DONT HIT THE LEGACY, JUST BECAUSE YOU DRIVE AN INFERIOR CAR DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO HATE ON THE SUBARU, JERKS.

are you at a college?

if your campus security dept is worth anything, file a report. even if they're not, it's still worth a shot.

have them keep an eye on cars in that parking lot. it's next to nothing for tickets writers to look out for a car with a scrape on their bumber. most people habitually use the same lot, and the chances of finding them is high.

yea I'm at Penn State Abington for now.. our security isn't worth anything but I'm stopping by tomorrow to file a report, I'm sure nothing will come from it.. but like you said its worth a shot.

this happens all too much though, I have 7 friends that had their car hit. SEVEN. so Im not expecting to find who did it unless I find them myself. Also what you said about habitually using a lot is true, our classes are mon/wed/fri so Im gonna take a walk around friday around the same time to see what I can find.

I was actually considering getting a repaint done before but I need body work done too and I just cant afford it.. oh well, another battle scar for the Legacy.

That sucks man, someone hit my car in my high school parking lot and I'm still trying to contact his parents now to get them to give me the money. And oh yeah are you transfering to University Park possibly or are you sticking at Abington, I'm just wondering cause I got into U Park and am trying to see what suby guys are up there.
Peace,
Kyle

Same exact thing happened to me. after two years of university my bumpers were shittastic. Now that Ive repainted them I only park in certain parking lots (Either off campus, or in the engineering lot. Most engineers know how to drive!)

Kyle,

Im going up to U Park ASAP! Abington is like highschool.. actually highschool was cool its more like gradeschool. HORRIBLE. I thought I wanted to stay home but that was a big mistake.. but if you look on the brightside if I went up to Main right away I wouldnt have my Legacy. I'll definitely see you and your Subaru up there though.

Don't bother with repainting your Legacy. It's a college car!

If the damage to your bumper is cosmetic, leave it alone.
Save your pennies to further yourself and then when it comes time to graduate, get a great job, say goodbye to the beater.

Beater? I dont have a beater.. I have a Legacy. 8)

I know what you mean though, I do want to get it repainted but I dont have any money to do it so dont worry, Im saving my money (for a new exhaust.. ).

Honestly man, don't waste your hard earned money on the car unnecessarily.

If after you graduate and feel like making the car over then, go for it. But don't do it now.

Id hardly call my car a 'beater', especially in comparison to most other peoples car. Hell, I have power locks and windows, and AWD. Thats way more than most of my friends cars have.

*sigh*

I'm not saying Legacies are beaters - but SOME of them are. Some of them are *just* daily commute vehicles or college cars and should be treated as such.

Sure, take good care of whatever car you have, but don't spend more than you NEED to, or can afford.

That's my point.

As of today, my Legacy has become my non-modifiable transport, so I can save up for something a lot nicer.

yeah, many of my friends were impressed that I have locks, cruise, A/C, AWD, and Anti-lock on a cheap ass wagon

Many of them are also surprised that it is 12 years old, I have people ask me if it is a '99-00

Same here. People hear I have a 95 and I guess think its some piece of crap but once they see it every one goes "oh wow!" My Leg is in pretty decent shape and everyone notices.

Im not wasting money unnecessarily, my muffler is "rotting through" and I was told I should have from my Y pipe to the muffler replaced.

Is moding a car a good investment? No
will you ever see that money again? No
Is it wrong to spend youre money on your car? No

My car is basically a daily driver. I drive a 30km a round trip for school. Spending money on a car is no different than spending money on a computer, or any other hobby.

If I didnt spend anymore money than I needed to, what would be the point of this site? I wouldnt have any fun at autocross, Id use the cruise control, and Id still be using my tape adapter and portable CD player.

I hate the "Youre car isnt worth it" attitude people get.

me too.

People make fun of me when I talk about modding my car...

But I can laugh secretly, knowing my car will last a hella lot longer than their Pontiacs, Hyundais, and Chevys.

If your post is directed at me, then you're sadly mistaken.
I'm just as rabid a Subaru/Legacy fan as you Lee.
I've spent a small fortune in the name of modifications. I've even taught myself new skills in the process.

My point is - this guy is at college AND he's paranoid about people that park there (who are obviously not good drivers).

I just don't want to see someone sink some money into a car, then spend all day wondering if someone might have smashed into his pride and joy!

Does my perspective make sense to you now?

yeah, it makes sense. Im also a paranoid college kid with no money though :P

It just bothers me that these kids have new Jags and Infiniti's and treat them like crap.. I watched a girl try to fit a new I35 in between two pick-ups.. that didn't work out too well. Last week a found a new GTI backed into another car in the middle of the parking lot.. the dude left it in neutral and forgot to put the parking break on so it just rolled back.. ugh poor GTI
