Just bought a 2001 Legacy and it comes with this oversized/ugly key fob remote.

I'm wondering if it's possible to replace it with a smaller/nicer one like either of these?

If possible, how difficult is it to program one myself? The dealership quoted 30 minutes at $97 per hour. I'd like to do it myself if possible. I'm pretty tech savvy so unless there's some special equipment required I think I'd be fine.

The Alpine remotes have an FCC code stamped on the back. Google that code and you'll come up with a range of remotes that *should* work.

Look on www.cars101.com (http://www.cars101.com) for remote reprogramming instructions for your year car.
