subaru awd in automatics?

i recently got an 07 legacy 2.5i and its been snowing like crazy around me and i have been reading that because my car is an automatic its not true 50/50 is this true because it gets through snow like an suv and it spins all the wheel equally ( not at the same time of course).im just interested in how my cars awd system works because iv read so much bs? thanks

the 4eat trannys have a torque split of something like 80/20. not not sure if they have changed it in the newer models like the 5eat's. the reason that they all arent spinning at the same time is that you have open diffs.

In 1-2nd gear, the auto's are 50/50 split. So just start in 2nd, and you'll be fine for the really slippery stuff. Subaru.com has a pretty good description of the AWD system, and your manual should mention what I said about 1-2 gear (unless they changed it as Hallowpoint mentioned).

My first Subaru (an impreza, RIP) was a 50/50 split manual, and I wasn't expecting much from my automatic Legacy, however I've been pleasantly surprised. A friend of mine nicknamed the Legacy 'Mountain goat' after we drove 500 miles in really bad blizzard weather.

The 5EAT AWD is 45/55, and then modulates power accordingly to get you out of the mess you put yourself in. It can power oversteer very nicely at the corner exit. It's all in how you drive it.

im not really shure, but what i know is that only AT subarus when you shift it manually at second gear, the car starts at second gear, so i think thats is a little help to drive in snow. My sister use to have a at toyota corolla, even when i changed manually to second, the trans automatically started in 1st gear. is that right?
