ok so i'm still getting a cat deficiency code after doing both o2 sensors and cleaning my idle air valve and doing a tune up(plugs and wires). so for those of you looking for a cat like i am. i found this group bye going on over on a neighboring site. $280 for a high flow cat is insane considering randoms are going for $500+

A good exhaust shop will have generic high flow cats for even less than that.

I am in the market for a universal 2 1/4" high flow cat. Anyone have opinions as to which brand to go with in the $100-150 range?

From what I've seen, Subarus are a very picky about cats. I've seen Subarus with aftermarket stock cats have repeat p0420 codes after the cat replacement, and high flow cats are even less efficient than the aftermarket stock replacement ones. We only use OE Subaru cats at my shop because we've had too many come-backs with aftermarket ones.

Just FYI.

That being said, if that would work with my OBX header, I'd be all over it.

I've been running an aftermarket cat for almost 40k with no problems.

i figuered for those of you wanting to replace your stock/failed cat with a high flow aftermarket bolt in replacement that this was th ebest way to go. Also you have the option of getting dual high flows even though the single high flow cat passes emissions test.

$280 = WIN
$500+ = EPIC FAIL

I'm just saying, from my experience replacing a LOT of Subaru cats, Subarus don't like aftermarket cats. Maybe the older ones are better about it, but the newer ones are picky for sure. So, if you are wanting to get this specifically to replace a failed stock cat and get your P0420 to go away, beware it might not work as planned.

Yeah, I see what you are saying. Perhaps I am one of the lucky ones. I am currently running a low-budge cat that the previous owner had installed. I am planning on welding in a high-flow universal cat in its place. Does anyone have an opinion on the magnaflow ones?

You think that would pass a visual inspection for having a Cat Converter?

Do cops frequently look at every component of your exhaust system?

 lol good point
however i have had them bust out a tape measure to see if its to high off the ground
and check the window tint and ive even got shit for having studded tires in the summer
(it was just temporary till my new wheels and tires came).
and i have herd of cops looking to see if your catalytic converter is in place or
checking your tread depth
