Wiring foglights to parking lights NEED ADVICE!!

So I want to wire my foglights to my parking lights so that they come on with them, dont care about controlling them independently I thought this will be quick and easy and look good during the day when im rolling with fogs on.

My question is has anyone done this?? and then if i hook my fogs up to the parking lights will the voltage drop becasue im now powering 4 lights instead of 2?? I just dont want them to dimm on me. If no one has done this I will be the test dummy for this experiment. Going to work on them today and tomorrow or untill im done haha

I just did this last week and they work fine i had them wired into my seat heater fuse(since i don't have heated seats) with a switch but i got tired of turning them on all the time. just put the ground any where to the frame and wire the positive to the red wire on each side and the lights are just as bright as they were before. its great.

they shouldn't dim. you may wanna get a slightly bigger fuse. but im not %100.
when i had my outback i was just going to bypass the headlight switch that way the fog lamp circuit could be powered with out headlight circuit being powered so i could turn on the fog lamps on independently.

Did you wire it into heated seat fuse and then one to ground (guessing two wires comming out of the fogs)??

Im just trying to take the wires from the fogs and run them straight to the turn signals and clamp them on using suitcases(the clampy things that transfer over power and what not)

flashheart, yeah i had a feeling they wouldn't be as i would be putting them in parallel series but just wanted to make sure. Maybe i should upgrade the fuse on it. after i see the results of the light.

I thougth this would be the coward way out of doing independent fogs hahaha as when i get my projectors i want to run the city lights with the parking and fogs so i have a nice display of yellow jdmness hahaha,

definitly whenever man! Im not going to do jdm fogs on mine im just wiring rewiring up stock foglights so they always stay on haha. But who knows in the future i might change my mind and go with the jdm fogs haha

Sorry that did not make sense. i used to have it wired into my heated seat fuse. and i got tired of that and so that's why i wired it into my parking lights. i don't really know why i mentioned the fact that i had my lights wired into my heated seat fuse, cause it added absolutely nothing to to this thread.

oh ok hahaha, i was just really confused haha, thanks though! Its been on and off raining over here so when i get the chance i want to do this to my im going to try it today for an hr and see where i get!

try not to blow your fuses, when I wired the jdm city lights to the high beam light, i blew the fuse. Its a scary feeling seein the sun go down and your lights not work without having a replacement fuse at hand. =P

If you run them in PARALLEL then the voltage will not drop as mentioned. If you run them in series the voltage will drop.

You're still running way more current than the circuit was designed to handle. The proper way would be to wire in a relay.

Tell ya what I did. Both fogs combine into one power(white wire) and one ground(black wire). I used an old aftermarket fog light with wiring, relay, fuse, switch and one red wire that is supposed to hook to the batter for independent fogs. Hooked the fogs to the aftermarket wiring and tapped into the parking light wire just behind the front left turn signal with the red wire. It's grounded to the car body.
Seems too simple now that I write this, but it's supposed to get power from the parking lights, through the fuse, through the relay, to the switch where it can be turned on or off, back to the relay, to the fogs, then grounded to the car body. Really helps to have the appropriate fog light wiring. The lights would only turn on if the parking lights were on and could be switched off. They would turn off when the car turned off.

I also tapped into the same place for the jdm side marker lights.

now im not great with wiring but it makes sense to me to just bypass the fog laps circuit from the headlight switch. so you dont have to have the headlights on to run the fogs. that way you dont have to run new relays or anything like that. but like i said im not too familiar with the wiring in this case. just throwing out ideas

How come you dont just keep the button on? I just turn my switch from off to park when i start the car. And once it gets dark i turn it over to drivingligths.

Factory your foglights turn on with your headlights and turn off with your highbeams. Having them connected to the parking lights means they will be on when ever the parking lights are on. Plus it i look cool when im done

Aha, well my oem wiring is like this:
Off - Nothing
Park - F/R Fog
Drivinglight - low/high + f/r fog.

I just tapped the power wire for the foglight relay into the power wire for the headlight relay. That way when any of the headlight bulbs are getting power, the foglights can too. I have this on both of my Subarus.
BTW, regarding yellow city lights, I have been trying to have yellow city lights for a while but I cannot find any yellow 194 wedge bulbs. It seems they simply are not made. They always turn out to be amber/orange, even if they are described as yellow and I'm tired of buying bulbs I can't use. I've got a small collection of amber LED wedge bulbs now and my city lights are still white.

Looking for something a little more yellow, like actually yellow. In my experience, writing on bulbs with a sharpie doesn't have a major impact on the color of their light output as the layer of sharpie is just too thin.
