I know that you can clear the front lights with the oven method to remove the yellow.

What I am wondering is if it is possible to remove the rear lights to clear the yellow out as well? Or is the jdm lights the only option?

the amber wont come out, jdm is not the only option for the center garnish tho:

paint over it like hallowpoint did:
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/

tint it all like plays_with_toys:

get the jdm midwing like Legacy's:

tint all red like daddywagon's:

I have the sedan not the wagon, which is why I was hoping to have the clear run all the way across, like the jdm style? On my previous car, people would just break up the amber insert and pull it out piece by piece, is the lens amber in this case?

No, a one piece casing and the USDM ones are red and yellow. To get the JDM look, you either get a 98-99 limited GT set or JDM set. You can't pull out the amber and have it be white.

I have a 97 gt, it's white next to the yellow.

all the tails are the same... you cant get the amber out, jdm corners arent that expensive, nor is tint

if your content with going to red instead of clear/white it is very cheap and easy to get some transparent red paint or vinyl to cover up the amber.

all usdm tails from 1994-1999 are red and amber...you have to get the jdm to get the red and clear

I have been having a hard time locating the jdm's around where I live (Montreal, Canada), so vinyl or paint seems to be the best option. Is there a diy on here somewhere?

the only DIY for your rear lights other than painting them is to buy them yourself.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-LEGA ... 5631da0e1f (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-LEGACY-SEDAN-RS-BD5-CLEAR-TAIL-LIGHTS-GARNISH-OEM_W0QQitemZ370203561503QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5631da0e1f)
and
I know YamazakiSubaru is selling a pair of rear JDM tails.

the jdm sides work great, the center sections dont fit quite right since jdm trunks are different due to what i assume is a license plate difference

The center section is the same on USDM and JDM right, besides the fitment issue? So I could just use the USDM center with JDM "sides".

where do you buy that red tint spray? i looked at home depot, lowes, walmart(the only stores in my town) and all the autopart stores and no one even nows wat im talking about, and does it still light up amber?

GTDrifter

the center sections are basically the same but jdm says legacy and usdm says subaru but jdm sides would work with usdm center

^ no it wont light up amber.

Check walmart again, find the hobby section (plastic model cars and airplanes). Find the Testors Paint. look for this.

if walmart doesnt have it check at other rc/model hobby stores.

also some arts and crafts places will carry the Krylon stained glass paint. it will look like this

yeah the usdm center with jdm sides looks fine and then at least you have all clear across the bottom. wish the jdm center matched the contour of the trunk better. guess i'll have to go to japan and bring a new trunklid home as my carry on...

I'm sure you could fit 2 in the over head, one for you and one for me :)

actually with wagons the center garnish has amber on it as well

twistedautoworks
03-18-2010, 02:44 AM
yeah forgot to mention that'll only work with sedans... not sure if the jdm and usdm wagon lids are the same width and if the center pieces actually interchange unlike sedan

03-18-2010, 02:47 AM
yep, jdm centers fit perfectly on the wagons

could someone post a pic of the jdm trunk?

I was curious, if I painted the amber lights with the red transparent spray would I have to spray the other red lights (brake/center) so that they match, or does the paint match well enough?

For the picture of the trunk lid, I beleive reason has one, so search for a post by him with pics.

i would probably put enough coats on the amber parts to get it close and then put one or two more over everything including existing red parts just so it all looks the same, just to be safe

Sounds good! Went to Walmart today but mine didn't carry any stained glass paint except for frosted, probably because the Walmarts aren't as big in Canada. I'm sure I'll find it somewhere, trying to avoid craft stores because they are always more expensive.

yea actually checked my walmart yesterday for the Testors paint and it seams they no longer have a models section in the store..... guess its been a while since i wondered through the toys section of walmart....

but like i said just about any hobby (model) store is going to have it and it will still be less than 5 bux a can.

i bought the testore candy apple transparent to do mine. i bought it at a hobby store. it only took about half a can. make sure you do your prep before you paint. i also bought a can of testors clear.
