Ive looked through a few threads and come across the JDM HID's for the BE/BH chassis and the appear the same as the non HID headlights.
I was under the impression that the differences in the way the light is output between halogen and HID bulbs, HID needed a projector style housing. So for clarification how come JDM HID's for the BE/BH chassis run a halogen-esk reflector instead of a projector style?
And if the HID's run a halogen style reflector, is it different from the non-HID halogen reflector?

These are JDM non-HID headlight

Both seem to have halogen style reflectors.

Many cars run oem reflector HIDs, including various USDM cars... Take a look at some Acuras, Lexus, and yes even the USDM '04-05 STIs with hids are reflector.
Anyway, it's based on how the reflector is cut. HID ones actually have a cut that mimics the cutoff line of a projector. Meaning little to no glare and scattered light. Unlike what you'd get if you throw HIDs into a halogen reflectors.

Well, mine takes both. H7 Halogen or D2R HID. Or thats what the print on the back of the housing says anyways.

That's because there are two different bulbs in yours. Low and High beam.

Almost thought I may have found a loop hole for the aftermarket HID kits......

Here you go, more obvious differences:

Noooo, on the high beam it says H1, on the Low beam it says H7/D2R. When i had the headlights out during the summer i got a hold of a D2R bulb and it fits and locks in.

I just went and looked at it. Yeah, you're right. It says pretty clearly H7 12V55W OR D2R 12V35W.
Huh, I wonder why there are so many little differences then.... :smt017

Kind of makes sense...
HID in halogen setup = no go due to poor cutoff
Halogen in HID setup = OK because you won't cause weird light issues, just halogen light with a decent cutoff

So the HID lenses can run halogen bulbs but halogen lenses can not run HID bulbs correct? And I mean for effective lighting that is.

Im getting HID in everything later. No use at this time of the year. In a couple of months it will be light as day all day.

Bump from the dead, but what I'm gettin from this is that I can buy jdm hid headlights and run halogen bulbs?
This way I would theoretically not have to rewire everything?

Why would you run Halogens when the lamps comes with HIDs?
Basicly means the the GT headlamps with H7 bulbs can run D2R HID without any major modification.

My headlights are yellowed beyond any attempt at fixing, want to get new ones but I don't like messing with electrical stuff...foglights in my wrx haven't worked in years because I messed it up haha
I've got a legacy L though, single hi/lo bulb so it makes things a little different

Yellowed beyond fixing? I doubt that. You can rescue just about anything with the right method.
