Hey everyone, got my projector headlights in the mail today and i bookmarked a topic of the install for the wiring of the headlights. went and looked at the link and all of the pictures are deleted or not viewable.
My question is, can anyone repost/ give me the link/ show me (preferable with some pictures) of how to wire the projectores into my USDM 2.2 legacy L 97.
I also want to know how do take off the combined cords... shown.
the process of installing the lights would be nice
Thanks

are you talking about the plastic harness or the white/red wires?

yea its the thing with the red blue and black wires.
i cant get it off the mettal strip. is there a push pin im missing? or maybe i need to put wd40 on it? idk why its not coming off...

03-13-2010, 03:40 AM
i had that problem too, i think i just bent it back and twisted it to release one of the plastic clamp things that hold it to the metal

MINORMidget
03-13-2010, 03:44 AM
yea i aftually bent the plastic strips on the side out and it popped off. i thoght i was going to break it but didnt.
on a different note, does anyone know if you can put H4s in the JDM assembly? it obviously looks like you cant but im not sure if there is a DIY way of instaling H4s?

03-13-2010, 03:47 AM
in the projector or high beam?

why do you ask?

MINORMidget
03-13-2010, 03:57 AM
the high beam is the inside part, to the left of the projector? it doesnt look like an H4 could fit...

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2010/03/P1050126-1.jpg
i have some blue H4s that i like how they look and i want to keep them but i dont think i can... can i?
also i was thinking about getting the philops HID conversion kit... do you know if it will fit in the JDMs?

in the ^^ pic

light bulb sizes:

<--High Beam (H3), Lowbeam projector (H1), "City light" (194) ->, Blinker/Parking Lights ->> (1157)

as for HIDs, just match up the set you want (lowbeams or highs) with the sizes above and youre set

check out ddmtuning.com, Theyre inexpensive and high quality conversion kits, i havent had any problem with mine from them

MINORMidget
03-13-2010, 04:39 AM
thanks.
how did you do the wiring? did you get a kit? or just but the parts separately?

03-13-2010, 04:47 AM
for the hid's, theyre plug and play

for the projectors, i didn't go thru the trouble of buying an h4 harness from eBay, i just cut my cars harness off and hard wired it together,

when my HID kit came, i didn't wire it at all (since i never used high beams or the city light anyways) its only the HIDs connected to the stock power supply and grounded

MINORMidget
03-13-2010, 04:53 AM
hmmm. is there a write up for this?

So the projector is the low beam? and the non projector is high beam? this is confusing me because i thought the high beams in most cars were in the projectors? or does it not matter?
and if im going to get a HID kit should i get it for the projector (H1) or the one next to it (H3) ?

jospgut
03-15-2010, 10:50 PM
yeah, the projector is the low beam, if you wanna get the HID get the same as the stock bulb, like Zues told you H1 low beams, H3 high beams, and you can get both HiD's high and low beams,

Hey good advice about those HID, im planing to get some right now, did you get this? "DDM HID Kit Slim Ballast", or the apexcone raptor...

i purchased the

"35w, 6000k, H1, DDM HID Kit Slim Ballast",

and imo, the light out put with these in the projectors negate the use for high beams altogether,, but that's just me

personally i wouldnt put chead HID kits in my car. From what iv heard Philips and Osram make the best HID kits and most other brands are made from poor quality materials. about a year ago i was lookin into getting HIDs and stumbled onto a bunch of sites that were selling similar HID kits but with different names. Most of these are are about 50-150$ and advertise the high kelvin rates for more $$. Most of these are knockoffs.
In the end the Higer the K value the less you can actually see with.
I mean if im lookin to get a black light to light up the night with i might as well have sex on my hood so ppl can atleast see me.
this link helped me to understand the HIDs
http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f62/4300k ... 0k-216312/ (http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f62/4300k-vs-6000k-216312/)

03-16-2010, 12:50 AM
these are cheap because there is no middleman, it goes from the production factory to DDM, which keeps prices sane, the ones from DDM also come with a LIFETIME warranty for no additional charge

but these are far from cheap knockoffs, the quality is up there and surpasses some of the bigger names that inflate their prices through third partys for the same product

there aren't many companies that ive seen charge more for HIGHER temps, but its common for temps like 3000k to be a few dollars more

price doesn't determine quality.

jospgut
03-16-2010, 12:56 AM
i think they are nice, and the price is perfect, not cheap, and not expensive.... so you mean that with this HIDS i cant use or buy HIds for the high beams?

yea that was my point, price of the buld doesnt matter. but i think yr car is the perfect style, 6000k is the perfect temp that doesnt look gay and hella purple but still keeps the look that its not a standard halogen. how much did all 4 of yr HIDs cost? do all 4 have seperate balists?

ok so i have these bulds. is the las one correct? 194 or w/e? idk even what that means...
and do you happen to have a pik of the HIDs you have in your bulbs?
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2010/03/P1050133-1.jpg

03-16-2010, 01:15 AM
yeah, you can use HID's wherever there's a bulb slot im pretty sure all will each need a ballast though

sorry minormidget, i misunderstood you,

i only have HIDs in my lowbeam (the projector) i bought them for around $55 shipped from DDM, one bulb came messed up originally, i talked to them and they sent me a new ballast AND HID bulb

heres what the H1 hid bulb looks like:

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t232/wakeboardingguy/100_0127.jpg

the 194 you have there looks right, here's some alternatives: http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid ... Categories (http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=194+bulbs&_sacat=See-All-Categories)

03-16-2010, 01:29 AM
so is you high beams just regualar H3 bulbs or they somethin special?
and are those PIAA lamps on the front?

03-16-2010, 01:35 AM
yea, the high beams are just normal halogen H3s

and yeah they're 4 of the 6" PIAA

MINORMidget
03-16-2010, 01:39 AM
nice. how much did you get the PIAAs for?

jospgut
03-16-2010, 01:49 AM
can i use the 55w though? or the 35w is fine

03-16-2010, 02:03 AM
you can use either,

55w tend to drown out the color a bit so like, a 8000k bulb would look like a 6000k

jospgut
03-16-2010, 02:14 AM
i got the 8000k 55w, i hope they work fine

Hey guys im lookin for some wiring connectors like in the other projector install, but i cant find any.. i went to shucks, didnt have any. went to radio shack, didnt have any for cars. where can i find some that i dont have to order off the internet?

impreza_GC8

I just ordered a DDM kit for my JDM lights, I'll try to post up some info on how I mounted them when they come.

MINORMidget
03-23-2010, 10:34 PM
ok so i found a quick disconect wire harness, think its for trailers but idk.
so im going to wire 3 f the 4 wires, pretty easy. But i want to know if the "city lights" from the JDM harness can be wired into the same low beams on the JDM harnes?
IE connect the blue wire to the black wire... then slice those 2 wires into the low beams on the USDM wires?
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2010/03/P1050144-1.jpg

MINORMidget
03-24-2010, 12:21 AM
ok is this correct? im not sure if the negatives and posatives are right.
I belaeve the city lights are positive cuz i read that the low beams were neg. just an assumption.
can anyone help?
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2010/03/P1050147-1.jpg
If blue is actually positive, cant i just splic that into red? then the city lights would turn on when the headlights turn on, right?

impreza_GC8

Yes, splice your city lights into whatever you want. Personally I ran mine into the parking lights so that I can have the parking lights and city lights on together, separate from headlights, looks cooler in my opinion. You could also wire them separately altogether so you can turn them on or off whenever you want. If you ground your low beam wire to the chassis instead of plugging it into the vehicle harness then your low beams will stay on when you turn your high beams on. This is a useful mod.
Here's what I mean about the parking lights and city lights being on together:

I really like how that looks. Are those stock bulbs?
do you have a picture of you harness inside? i want to know if you cuz the stock USDM wiring to splice in the new wires? and if you have HIDs did it come with something to plug into the H4 connector on the stock USDM wires?

impreza_GC8
03-25-2010, 04:32 PM
I ordered HIDs but they aren't installed bc they havent arrived yet. I didn't cut the harness, I built a jumper harness using male/female quick disconnects and some wire.

MINORMidget
03-25-2010, 07:18 PM
can i get some pictures of the harnneses everyone is using for there JDM projectors?
I want to compare it to mine
thanks

MINORMidget
03-26-2010, 01:52 AM
can someone please show me thier setup?

03-26-2010, 02:11 AM
it really seems like you're over-thinking this..

MINORMidget
03-26-2010, 02:22 AM
maybe. idk, i just want to be able to put my old lights back in if i ever want to without having to rewire the whole USDM harness. but i guess i just go with what i got, splice it in with the usdm and hope for the best.

03-26-2010, 02:41 AM
just cut off both harnesses and quick connect wires..

i think the usdm headlight harness is H4, ebay one of those and splice the projector wires into it

impreza_GC8
03-26-2010, 02:29 PM
Don't cut things off. Build a jumper harness. Male/female disconnects. Not sure what else to tell you. I can probably snap a pic if you need a visual.

03-26-2010, 04:51 PM
ok so i think i know what im going to do, but here are the quick disconects that i bought the other day and wired up to the jdm harness.

So i decided to oder the HID kit from DDM tuning, now all i need to do is install it.
How did you guys wire you HIDkit into the JDM wire harness?
pictures would be nice

impreza_GC8
04-02-2010, 03:01 PM
You freak out about wiring lol. The HID kit takes its power from the headlight bulb wires, which are inside the little cone that screws off the back of the headlight. The best way to do it is to drill a hole in the back of the cone to feed your wires through.

MINORMidget
04-04-2010, 08:37 PM
ok i figured it out lol sorry.
so i heard if you grounded the high beams you can keep the lows and the highs on at the same time... how exactly can you keep both lights on when you put on high beams?
also can someone give me a layout of the wires on the blinker harness? like whats pos and whats neg and what does what? thanks

cant someone please tell me what the charges of these wires are?
all i need to know is which one is positive, or power...
this is the passenger side, the drivers side is black and balck/yellow and green

H4 socket should be like this

Top - low beam
highbeam- Left Right - positive

impreza_GC8

Perhaps you should get a multimeter.

MINORMidget
04-13-2010, 02:39 PM
have one, used it. found out what wires i needed. got some piks just havent had time to put them up.
Got the HIDs from ddm tuning but one of the balists was bad. Anyone else have a bad balast or light from DDM Tuning?

04-13-2010, 05:43 PM
^just tell them, they have a lifetime warranty, they'll replace it
