Not sure if this is common or not but I have never seen or heard of this happening.

Got back from a trip of snowboarding and popped the trunk to get my boots out. I left the trunk open while I took my board out of the racks when I hear what sounded like an explosion from inside my trunk... a minute or 2 after opening it.

Scared the @#$% out of me. I noticed the trunk was now closed and then popped it again to check things out. The trunk was really heavy to open and wouldn't stay up without crashing back down, it had no support. The bars suspending the inside of the trunk I now realized bend to take some weight off the trunk. I now know how heavy our trunk doors are... One of the solid metal bars had completely snapped.

Anyone have a spare? lol I should just install shock absorbers instead, but that's probably more complicated

Probably going to have to Junkyard it... Call around, if not cities close by then try out of state yards. Here in WA we have Arrons Subaru wrecking yard.

Oh, snap! guess what I saw...

You know, I have always dreaded having to one day do this... I wonder how sprung they really are when the trunk is open all the way.
Please let us know for sure how difficult/dangerous it is to pop one of those suckers out/back in. If it is hard, I hope the one that snapped was the one that runs lower/under the other.

yeah it's now harder to see how they were originally set lower/under the other. I'll check it out later.
