I'm looking for some info on the postal editions.

Were they only made as wagons? Auto or was there a 5mt available? Also what years. Was there ever another rhd subie stateside?

Thanks,

Greenie

1st and 2nd Gen only (not sure if there is specific years)

Only wagons (it IS a postal vehicle after all)

only ever heard of them being autos. (again it is a postal vehicle)

only 1st and second gens. All wagon. All Auto.

all the BG's have the same options for the most part. standard power everything, cruise, no sunroof, no spoiler, no roof rack. Only colors are Maroon, White, Green- A handful were brown, and in 99 they had blue.

if you google it, you will find the info fairly easily about the options.

All I Needed was proof there was a 99 postal edition stateside. Perfect!

Wonder if at all subaru would be willing to write a letter of compliance.

Just currious would they be a right hand drive like in japan? i think alot of the mail/postal vehichles i seen are right hand drive so they can drive right up next to a mail box. sound right?

The link above says they were build in Indiana just like most Legacys sold in the US.

I'd strongly urge you to stay away from a postal vehicle. Unless you want a car with 400,000 miles on it, and it's gone 10-15 MPH for a good percentage of that mileage.

If you want a RHD vehicle, convert one. Just get a front clip with a turbo motor and dash and such, and convert from LHD to RHD.

some mail cars are LHD but have a kit to put a steering wheel on the right, it looks bad but whatevers cheaper i guess
mail cars do take a serious beating though

LOL, you do know how much work goes into converting a car from LHD to RHD right? regardless of the mileage on a postal car i would much rather go that route than try to do a conversion.

I'd rather convert than deal with a car that has that many hard miles on it. Preferences, preferences, preferences...

Depends on what your purpose for the car is I guess. If you were wanting to just have a RHD platform to start with and you planning on seriously modifying it (i.e. drivetrain swap, lowering it, etc) then who cares if it has 400k on it as long as the body is straight and not rusty? You are going to replacing almost everything anyway.

If you were wanting a RHD daily driver and intend on keeping it stock, then yeah, either get it really cheap with the intention of having to replace a lot, or don't get it.

Converting from LHD to RHD is not a small task because there are a lot of little differences and small, unforeseeable parts that you would need. You would basically need to have a RHD parts car right there to take parts off of.
