4eat awd acting like a fwd

Ok. So i have a 98 legacy 2.2l 4eat awd with 17" 06 wrx rims on it. The trnny has been hard shifting from time to time and just now it has been acting like a fwd car. Torque steer, front tires spinning like mad going around corners and wot launches. It feels like i have absolutely no power to my back tires. I put it up on jack stands and the rear tires didn't spin with it in drive but spun very slowly when i gave it gas. alot of gas.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm trying to get a parts car to do a mt swap but i live in memphis, tn and subarus are kinda rare around here. There's just one 70s or 80s subaru gl 1.3l at the pull a part here....at btw.

Sounds like you toasted the center coupler. Also sounds like you toasted the transmission if it's shifting hard. But one thing at a time.

First step would be to make sure the Duty C solenoid is getting proper power. If it is, then either the solenoid is shot, or you need a new transmission.

If you can get that sorted out, the next step is to find out what your pressures are in the transmission. If you're running high pressure, and the PC solenoid is at like 7% duty, then your transmission is done. You'll either need new clutch packs, or a new transmission.

Honestly, in your position, I'd just drop a 5 speed into it.

Not sure if its the same with your car as mine, but there is a fuse located in the fuse box located in the engine compartment. The fuse disables the rear wheels so the car can be towed. You have to remove the fuse to enable the rear wheels. Check your cars manual on exact location in the fuse box. If it isn't installed, then worry about what the person above me said.

yeah. the 15 amp fuse was out. i did want to do the swap but there are no parts cars around memphis tn...man this sucks

I believe you got that backwards, if you are referring to the TOW MODE fuse. That fuse disables the DUTY C solenoid. When you remove power from the DUTY C solenoid, it defaults to 50/50 power as a fail safe, so if you blow a fuse or the power circuit goes open, you still have AWD.

Putting a fuse in would put the car into FWD mode, as it would energize the solenoid to 100%. I could be wrong on the operation of this solenoid though, as I'm not looking at a schematic right now...

OOOhh yeah i know what hes talkin about. The front tires goin bald evry week, loooong shifting, the chirping, the tranny would even down shift at the strangest times. Soooo I did what was said above. In with the 5 speed and out with the auto. By the way "Zues" i thought that was a UFO when i saw that shot. no insult intended.

If the fuse is inserted, you will be in FWD mode. Yes, it does give full voltage to the duty C to accomplish this. If you cut power to the duty C, it locks the clutch pack and goes 50/50.
