i've been working on this car for a solid month now, custom metal fender flares, close to 20 hours in each of the front and rear bumpers... this week it finally had been primed, blocked and re primed.. So began the painting.. the shell went rather straight forward but then all the rest of the parts ran into, well... an interesting situation.. it all started about 630am on friday.... technically thursday night for me... we ran into an error with our carbon fiber method and decided to sleep on a new idea.. after a few hours of sleep we decided to go for it...

ironically enough, it was sunrise when i was driving home and had the idea...

everything else happened today as far as reassembly and getting the car to actually drive home by the end of today...

1) Those are some serious fenders. What did you use for original flare?

2) That rear bumper is very interesting.

3) You are one of the first legacy owner I have seen who was brave enough to cut out the spare tire well. KUDOS!
--> what was the reasoning for this? Was it the EZ30 twin tips exhaust?
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2010/03/Lego54-1.jpg

4) Very nice work on the strut bar. Not many are willing to spend the time to weld up a $20 strut bar.

5) Now thats lego :-D Nice engine cover

1. the fender flares are 2 left and 2 right fenders off of an 86-89 honda accord... johann did the fab work since it was done at his shop and at the time his 6spd wasnt in so the car wasnt driveable. plus he's my friend and I don't wanna have to charge him for something that he is more than capable of doing himself. he trimmed out the flare, there is an aggressive body line before the flare and he cut about 3/4" up from that to give a smooth transition.

2. the rear bumper is the stock gt cover to start. i cut off the bottom section and grafted in an 09 legacy bumper section in its place.. allowing the dual exhaust and then cut and grafted the small side bumper reflector parts into the corners, only I trimmed out the mounts for the reflectors so that mesh can be installed to sort of tie into the aggressiveness of the front bumper.

3. yo cut out the inner floor for a couple different reasons... yes one was because it would make running the dual exhaust easier, the second was that eventually he's planning on really squaring off trunk area to accommodate relocating the battery, washer bottle, mufflers and whatever else he decides to put back in there. eventually the bottom of the car is going to be covered in abs sheeting for a smooth underbelly and he'll put in a rear diffuser...

this is a link to my flickr page where all the pics that I took during the build are... yo has some other ones he'll be putting up. it should be a slideshow... enjoy..

even if they are overlays you got my vote :smt023

yeah they are the 3m di-noc dry carbon overlay... its like vinyl but i think its made out of pvc... its not bad stuff to work with, by pearling it and clearcoating it changes the final appearance but eventually we'll sand down and reclear the carbon overlay parts to get rid of the texture so it will be as smooth and glossy as the rest. the 3 coats of clear with 5 coats of pearl still sucked down into the texture of the overlay and killed the gloss and texture, but that'll be fixed soon

thats awesome. how bout i send u a bumper and you do that for me? haha awesome awesome work man.

twistedautoworks
03-28-2010, 09:21 PM
yeah i'm contemplating changing the wheel setup... they have an aggressive offset which i like, not totally sold on the style since angled spoked wheels have always been a gray area in my styling... but i thought about painting the lips lime green and flat black spokes... would kill the resale though and i prolly could get 500 for the set..

thanks bluebaru, i'll try to get some pics of it soon.. gotta find some fancy photographer guy to gimme some hi res ones since my shop camera is 2.0mp lol..

redlegacy, yeah i'd love to make some bumpers for people, if it was a plug and play setup i'd do it, but unfortunately everything i've been doing lately is practically one off. i guess i could build another one for my car and u could bolt it on yours though. probably wouldnt be cheap since it takes so frickin long to make

03-28-2010, 09:29 PM
<---this guy('s girlfriend) has a nice camera, come to spokane

redlegacygt
03-28-2010, 09:53 PM
lol nah i wouldnt ask you to do that man, like u said it would be hella expensive, plus i like the idea of people having one off vehicles which is what yours is. although if there was a way to get those 2 bumpers you made mass produced, i'd be first in line. haha

hmmmm yeah i'll have to do some research on the link for my buddy's forester.. i dunno if he really has a ton of pics of it... it has a wrx swap and probably 300+hp.. and i'm thinkin for my lego to put some smoke covers and/or yellow film to kind of match the head lights, since the chrome reflecter really stands out now
