Hey guys. I I have a 96 Leggy L with a EJ22 SOHC OBDII. I waa wondering if this motor would work with my stock ECU? Thing is it's AVLS and the shop says it's out of a BE4. Thing is I though after 99, all Subby 2.5 were all SOHCs? Now you can see my confusion? I know for a fact that the 99+ 2.5 were dohc.

when u say 99+ u mean 99- right...

all BEs in the states were SOHC, and the 00-01 2.5rs impreza was also SOHC


as far as i can tell, that add doesn't even make any sense....

you could drop the block between your ej22 heads and then not have to work with wiring at all

but the motor as a whole, eehhh i'd bet against it working as a drop in different cam sensors and what not

the add mentions something similar to Vtec? what subaru motors have this?

Maybe the motor in question being non-USDM means that it is exempt from the SOHC clause we North Americans have branded our 2000+ 2.5s with? And I guess that if I have to do wiring, then I'll just settle for an EJ25D. But AVLS (Active Variable Lift System) was available on TS-R and TS models in Japan I think. Yeah, I think it was those models.....

Jap Subaru motors continue to be DOHC as I understand it. You would have a heck of a time making it work without rewiring the car, unless you use only the shortblock.

With all of this talk about swaping head and A/Rs being off between 2.2s and 2.5s, what about EJ25D heads on a EJ22? Maybe with EJ22T pistons?
