Has anyone seen this oil pan?

see i thought it said it was for some kind of vanagan mod. like they had put a subaru motor in the vanagan

It says it was designed to help with the low ground clearance issues of an EJ in a Vanagon, but could also be used in a sand buggy.

Aluminum pans are cool for helping keep the oil cooler, but the problem I have with them is that while a sheet metal oil pan will dent under impact unless it is very sharp, aluminum pans crack and break (and dump out all their oil as a result).

That's the absolute last oil pan I'd ever put on a subaru. You want a pan to be deep and narrow with lots of baffling to prevent oil starvation under high g loads.

I doubt the pan would break, I have worked with Porsches, BMWs and Audis for years, most of them have aluminum oil pans. The Porsche 944 has a huge aluminum oil pan and I have never seen or even heard of a oil pan breaking. Plus a lot of the 944s I work on see track time.

Only one has broken because the car was smashed in to and the front of the car took the 60 mile an hour hit.

I also sent the company a request to see the inside of the pan, it might be worth while to check it out.

It says it is baffled, probably similarly to the stock pan.

My boss has a EJ22 sitting on an engine stand in his garage with that pan on it, it's going into his vanagon project.

I could probably get more pictures if you guys are interested.

As goodnight 1985 said, there are bazillions of cars on the road with OEM aluminum oil pans and they're just fine. Taking some significant impact on your car's oil pan is such a unbelievably remote possibility that it seems like a silly thing to worry about.

Yeah, I'd be interested to see the inside of it. I don't really have any desire to have a shortened oil pan, but it would be interesting to see what they've done to make it work.

Okay guys, this weekend is looking quite choice. Some rain on Friday, but High of 74 and Sunny on Sunday.

I'll be out at at my boss' house, I'll pull that pan off and get some pictures if I have time.

My flatmate's GC just started knocking and a buddy bought a 93 Impreza wagon with a blown diff, so we have plenty of work ahead of us. :smt023
