Resonator Question

Okay, new to modifying the Sub...I keep hearing about removing the resonator for improved sound/pick up...are we talking intake or exhaust? If so where is it? I know this sounds dumb, but no one ever accused me of being very bright... :roll:

i think an 18" resonator brings out the rumble the best

resonator is on your midpipe, usually right after the flange to your cats, but theres also some mufflers with a resonator built in,

He's probably talking about the intake snorkus delete. Regarding resonators, the exhausts on both my cars are resonatorless and I have only ever gotten compliments. Its usually what you do with the cat/axleback combo that results in the type of noise, a resonator just provides tone/noise reduction.

Uh, snorkus? I need to look that one up... :smt024 I am assuming that this a baffle in the intake? Also, does anyone have a soundclips of a resonator-less exhaust? I also need all the botton end I can get as I tow a small camper and the car is always full of kid stuff, one big honkin' bull-mastiff and various other implements of destruction. Will removing the exhaust resonator affect that?

The snorkus is the intake silencer/resonator in the front right fender it can be removed and give better throttle response and maybe 1 or 2 ponies but its free so why not.

Exhaust for low down torque defiantly don't go over a 2.25" piping. New muffler, stock is extremely restrictive also high flow cat-converter might help.

Reason sells Group-A TB spacers that are saposta help with low down torque.

I'm at work or I would Jack up the car and measure... How long is the oem resonator? What is soo much better vs a aftermarket resonator?

if im not mistaken, my stock one was 18", but im not 100%

not sure of the difference, if any, my aftermarket midpipe didn't have one so i added it

Resonators will help quiet your exhaust and can add tone. You can run a straightpipe with four resonators and it will quiet it down substantially when compared to a normal straightpipe. It will still be louder than your typical muffled exhaust, but not by much. My roommate has been running a setup like this on his Evo for quite some time and the car is not very loud at all.
Conversely, simply removing a resonator from a stock exhaust will not change the tone that much seeing as any stock muffler quiets the exhaust so much that you can barely hear a difference.
