View Full Version : Custom Part Ideas
I'm looking for some ideas to design and manufacture, parts for our legacy's that are made for other models
i.e. alternator/shrouds, roll bars, interior bits
i have all design softwares (autocad, rhinocerous, maya, 3dsmax etc), laser engravers and cnc machines
i can take ideas for all legacy models as i already have donors for all generations (at the moment, unless they flake)
so shoot

Ooo. I like this idea.
I would love to see a skid plate get figured out; possibly just a front bumper plate with a brush guard-type thing in the front that lights can be mounted to. This would be more of a fabrication-type thing I suppose, but its an idea.
I know they sell them on eBay, but an aluminum cluster surround would be cool as well.
Also, a mobile device holder for our Legacies. Pro-fit used to make them; but I think I bought one of the last ones.

^ i was going to do that entire first line of what you suggested, ha nice..maybe a skid plate that bends up around the lip a bit
the device holder is cool, wonder where else it could go...how does the "devices" stay on there?

here's an easy one, throttle body spacer, i might even have a cnc program for you after mine is made
your making a cnc program? or a throttle body spacer?

sounds like he's making one to make the other...
A few ideas I have:
Endlinks (Front and Rear), drilled out to accept bushings
Battery tie down
Pitch Stop mount
If you have access to welding equipment:
rear diff protector
fender braces
let me know if you need help with this, I have access to a bunch of CAD programs as well and can create CNC programs and code for parts if needed (either by CAM or hand written G&M code).I'd be more than happy to donate some of my time to the legacy/subaru community

-Hood Spacers
-Magnetic drain plugs if your niffty enough
-Universal catch can bracket for A/C location. Good for guys who remove a/c and go with a catch can :-D
-Arm rest console latch. These stupid plastic latches keep breaking!!
-Dead pedal (good for auto/manual)
-Manual Antenna delete (top) like the imprezas
-Power antenna delete (rear)
-Stronger floor mat pin made out of stainless steel.
-STi Piston shaped 5MT shift knob. But with SLi engraved in the top.
-Rear diff locking kit (super easy to make there just 1-2 cm slugs)
-Rear subframe locking kit (super easy to make you just need to make the sleeves)
-maf cone filter adapter
-SLi tow hook
-Stainless steel 96-97 cup holders. I'v cleaned mine 40 times and gone through 10 in the past 3 years..
-Center console bezel (around the double din decks.)
-Kartboy long-style exhaust hangers (not sure if you can machine rubber :-D)
-Rear differential brace. (A-Arm)
Just to name a few things

This rear differential brace. Not too complex.

^ does that use existing bolts?
who'd want one of these: (glove box Handle)

maybe 2.5gt, SLi, something like that..
i'm playing with alot of these ideas, i'll probably start on smaller things and work my way up..
keep the ideas coming in tho, its interesting/motivating

I love all the little logo parts, handles, shifters, latches, etc

Yeah, the brace just uses the existing holes and studs in the subframe.

I'll take one that says SLi.
But seriously make a alloy version of the arm rest latch. There so flimsy...

I think a full body skid plate would be good. Also be good for aerodynamics to help control airflow under the body.
If you can do metal engraving, how about brushed stainless door sill plates with some optional engraved logos (Legacy, 2.5GT, sl-i.net, etc?)

Rear sway bar mount, the factory steel ones suck. A nice aluminum set would be cool. Also, a harness bar for BD's. That way we don't have to take up the rear seats for a roll bar.

maybe a brushed aluminum rear bumper protector. The thing that looks similar to the door sills that sits on the rear bumper, if that makes sense.
Have plans to do anything with plastic, fiberglass or polyurethane?
plastic yes, no idea how to work with fiberglass and the like... wanna throw me some dimensions for the sill from your grey leggy(avatar)? i dont have one

what kind of things were you looking to have made from FG? I have access to a lot of fiber glass, carbon fiber, and resin, and have the experience and now how to make a wide variety of parts. let me know what you're looking for and I'll see if it would be possible for me to make it.

^^ I don't really have anything in mind. I was just asking, cause most of the ideas are for metal.

I don't have the grey legacy anymore, and it never had the bumper protector on it. I wish it did, I would of snagged it off there before I sold it.
I'm sure someone on here has one. hopefully they will throw some dimensions your way.
I really like where this (costume parts ideas) is going

A few ideas I read in here I'd personally want to see: dead petal, door sills with engravement options like "Subaru", "Legacy", or "Outback", skid plates.

I think someone said this already but a push bar for the front would be awesome. I'm looking into getting one made for mine. I think that would make it look wicked aggressive.

Another +1 for the door sills! Can I get a holla for some 3rd gen?
Also always loved skid plates! I fab'd one for my R/C truck a long time ago, along with steel roll bars, thing finally stopped breaking!
