Roof insulation?

So the roof in my 97 Legacy L wagon is not insulated at all or at least much, whenever I close one of the rear doors or the hatch, it makes a clanging, echoing sound throughout the roof. Im most likely also losing heat through it, which isn't something I particularly want. So I'm wondering if you guys have any experience or suggestions on how to go about insulating it?

Gotta say, this is never a question I have ever heard asked before. Most people want to lose weight out of their cars, not add it. I suppose you could use Dynamat but thats more of a sound insulator used for high-powered stereo systems. The roof is probably not the only place you are losing heat, what are you hoping to gain from more insulation?

You get a tremendous amount of heat from the roof on a hot, sunny day. More insulation up there would be a good thing on a daily driver.

I've seriously looked into doing this. I was thinking about using that "organic" home insulation that gets blown in with a machine. The only problem I foresaw was the sun roof getting particles on it or jamming. It's kind of a pain in the ass to drop the headliner enough to get to the sunroof so I've put that idea on hold for a little bit. Here's the thing, if you don't have a sunroof, then I could easily see you using the machine (or maybe a long stick) to blow the insulation deep into the front. It's only $10.99 a bag at Home Depot and it's a rather large bag. I think two bags will be more than enough to insulate it.
