I've got a vibration issue I'm trouble shooting, and think it might just be the mounts. One looks relatively new with "subaru" stamped on it, while the other looks, well, 13 years old, though nothing seems to be structurally deficient.
My question is whether I can replace the BD mounts with GR mounts. They look similar in pics, but I haven't held up up to the other to see how different they really are. Thanks, guys!

Why would you go with GR mounts when GD/GC/GF/BD/BK/BG/SF/etc.. mounts fit and are much cheaper. Any EJ mount will fit any EJ motor. PERIOD :-D
If your looking for fresh mounts go to the dealer and buy some stock replacements. (no fun in this option though)
If you want an upgrade go with Group N mounts (ask Reason he can hook them up)
If you want to go nuts get the solid Cusco mounts. (bone shattering ride)
Have you checked your pitchstop/dog bone/front tranny mount or whatever you want to call it? They have been known to crack and their bushings get sloppy. Its between the firewall and the throttle body.

Hey, I appreciate the quick response. I've been trouble shooting a vibration (more of a shimmy) and, in doing so, noticed the rear tranny mount and passenger-side motor mount both looked pretty darned good. The driver-side motor mount had a 13 year old layer of brown, but still looked structurally sound. Dog bone looked good, and I"m not sure what you mean by the forward tranny mount. I'll have to look again, but I wasn't aware there was more than just the rear. That being said, I'm not certain that my issue will be resolved with mounts, but a GR owner who upgraded is getting rid of his stock mounts, and I'm hoping to take advantage of that.
As far as NVH, this is my DD, so I really don't care. I plan to replace all bushings, and possibly the rear sway with one from an outback. It's a 13 YO car, but, in some ways, it's just as fun as the STI. : )
I hope the mods don't mind me posting trouble shooting info in the "will it fit" subforum, but here goes:
I've got a lot of vibration - kind of like a shimmying vibration - at idle, in gear, and while accelerating in 2nd or 3rd gear between 1800 and ~2500 RPM. The issue seems to be more prevalent while lightly to moderately accelerating uphill for what ever reason. New plugs and wires, coil resistances seem to be close to spec (a little high resistance on the primary side, but nothing alarming, IMO) The car has 205kmi, 40kmi of which I've put on. It may only be a coincidence, but the issue seems to have surfaced after I replaced both CV shafts with new GRP shafts from Advance Auto less than a year ago. I replaced both with new GSP CV shafts under warranty just to make sure - no change.

The tranny has two mounts. Rear which is located above the tranny itself and the front mount which is the "dog bone/pitch stop" (Both can be upgraded to OEM STi Group N mounts)
No idea about this "shimmy vibration"
Follow the rules and just repost your issues in the proper sections.

Thanks, Chuck. I didn't realize the dog bone was the front tranny mount. I've posted the vibration over at legacygt.com, with very few helpful suggestions. I have a feeling there are many more knowledgeable older-gen leggy guys here.
If I can get a good deal on the GR engine mounts I'll install them as an upgrade. That way I won't feel as bad if it doesn't cure the vibration.

legacycentral is for Gen 1 legacys
SLi is for mostly Gen 2 and 3's
LGT is for Gen 4 legacys guys usually.

You've answered the my questions, thanks, but hopefully you'll bear with me through another newb question. The GR owner selling his stock mounts with 20kmi on them wants $85, shipped and paypal'd. This is cheaper than new, OEM-style mounts for the LGT, but is it a good deal; what do you think?
