ok i put a 96 outback 4eat into my 98 gt and when i turn the car on the at oil temp light flashes like 20 times and it feels like it has major tourqe bind or different final drive symptoms, im thinking that this could be caused because the im using the 98 tcu and not the 96 tcu... any oppinions?

The tcu should operate trans the same regardless of the yr.

Is the car driving or sitting still or in gear or? More info!
Start it in p what happens?
Start in neutral what happens?
What happens when you put in drive?
What happens in 1?
Any difference with fwd fuse installed?

Your confident you filled trans and diff fluids and got all electrical hooked back up?

There is a procedure to read the trans code. If no one answers by the time I get home I will look it up for you.

well i hooked everything up and it goes into all gears, if i turn the wheels and try to give it gas it just binds up to where i really cant move, reverse is really hard to do, just kinda binds up quick. i put 9 qts in of castrol import fluid...

1 If possible, drive the vehicle above 20km/h until transmission reaches operating temperature.
2 With ignition ON and engine OFF place gear selector into position 1.
3 Turn hold switch ON.
4 Cycle the ignition switch OFF-ON
5 Move gear selector into position 2 and turn the hold switch OFF.
6 Move gear selector into position 3 and turn the hold switch ON.
7 Move gear selector into "Drive" and turn the hold switch OFF.
8 Depress the throttle pedal and release.
9 The power light should be flashing.
10 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.

• Each code is made up of two series of flashes.
• The long flashes indicate the 'tens' digits.
• The short flashes indicate the 'ones' digits.
• A long pause separates each code sequence.
• Code Format Diagram shows code No. 12.
post the code up

I didn't see the codes for a phase one automatic tranny on this website, but here is the page from the FSM: (for a 96 4eat but same codes apply for 1st gen's as well)

Also to clear the codes (from the fsm):

E: CLEAR MEMORY
Current trouble codes shown on the display are cleared by
turning the ignition switch OFF after conducting on-board
diagnostic operation. Previous trouble codes, however,
cannot be cleared since they are stored in the TCM
memory which is operating on the back-up power supply.
These trouble codes can be cleared by removing the specified
fuse (located under the right lower portion of the instrument
panel).
CLEAR MEMORY:
Removal of No. 14 fuse (for at least one minute)
* The No. 14 fuse is located in the line to the memory
back-up power supply of the TCM and ABS/TCS control
module. Removal of this fuse clears the previous trouble
codes stored in the TCM and ABS/TCS control module
memory.
* Be sure to remove the No. 14 fuse for at least the specified
length of time. Otherwise, trouble codes may not be
cleared.

Im just thinking aloud here but... If it locks up when turning isn't that a symptom of the viscus?
Do you know that the trans was fine when you bought it? Or is this out of a junkyard where you have no clue how the vehicle operated before you pulled it?

well ive also read that it can have tourqe bind issues if duty solenoid c fails, and this is a junk yard transmission...

check over the electric connections, they do get dirty and will cause problems. if not the trans is probally junk, you could try a flush w/ lubeguard..

still sounds like a viscus to me.

fixed it, like i thought it was duty solenoid c was at fault.

im glad to hear that! that would have sucked if the trans was bad.

still sounds like a viscus to me.

The automatic transmission has no "viscus", or a viscous coupling center differential if that's what you're talking about.
