the light for the gear selector isn't working on my wagon (actually, i think the bulb just isn't mounted right as i can see light coming up through around the shifter stalk) and i'd like to fix it.
can anybody tell me how to take either the shifter bezel off or if need be, take apart the center console.
thanks 8)

open up the "silly bin" that sits in between the two front bucket seats, and there should be two screws there. Pull up the e-brake, and start popping those panels out. I don't know how much different it is on an auto, but it should be the same.

I think there's a trim piece around the shifter that pops off, then follow Mark's instructions.

Open the bin, remove the two screws, pull up the ebrake.
Move the shifter to a lower position (turn the key to on and hold the brake), then remove the two large pieces of plastic trim that are around the ebrake and shifter.
Remove the two small screws on the shifter, and pull up. Then remove the 4 large screws at the base of the shift assembly
This will separate into two parts. The upper part with the numbers and the lower part holding the bulb.
Do whatever you have to do with the bulb and then put everythign back. There isnt anything that can be 'misaligned' or something, it all just screws back on.
