Hey guys 1st post is a great 1. My 97 RS legacy is burning out #4 cylinder coil packs. On wednesday just gone it popped/exploded 1 then
on thursday I replaced it with a brand new 1 and after about 1 minuit of running it popped/exploded the new 1. Now I have had the spark plugs out and swapped #1 for #4 and swapped the coil packs too. it seems to be just that cylinder thats doing it. Must be a wiring thing. What could it be caused by? And how can I fix it? thanx

Check all wires leading to #4 cyl.

Check for:
-Frey wires
-Cuts / Corrosion
-Shorts/Arching points.

Sounds like either its wired incorrectly or there's a short somewhere along the line that's overloading the coil pack.

Is that cyl misfiring as well prior to destroying the coil?

Assuming the coil has constant power and a switched ground, I'd say that the ground side is shorted to ground.
