Well, after some discussion on another board, I have made contact with a US supplier of an S401 replica front bumper from a company called K2Gear in Japan.

I've decided to try and determine interest here for a future group by in the chance I am able to convince them to take part in such a deal.

For reference, heres the conversations I have had with them so far.

Hello,

In a recent conversation with some associates in Japan, they mentioned that 5Zigen International Inc is a distributor, or at least associated, with a Japanese company called K2 Gear.

Are you able to import parts through 5Zigen International Inc from K2 Gear to the US?

There is a decent amount of interest in importing a front bumper which is under development from K2 Gear, once it hits the market.

Thank you, and I(as well as others) are very interested in your response.

With best regards,

Thank you for your inquiry.

5Zigen International, our headquarter in Japan is a distributor for K2 Gear
and then we are able to carry its product to the US market.

Could you please provide us more detail on what you're interested in.
so that we'll quote you for them. In the meantime, we would like you to
fax us a copy of your business license and tax ID.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Best Regards,

Masa Goda
5Zigen USA,INC.

Dear Mr. Goda,

You have provided a favorable response, and I thank you for your time.

I do, however, think there has been a mis-communication. I am in charge of a not-for-profit organization for Subaru enthusiasts. Although I believe there is much profit to be made off of the product, I would much rather see the availability of items from K2 Gear in the United States without adding middle-men to increase the cost of such a product. Also, if I did register a business and provide a business certificate I would be doubtful to meet your minimum order requirements.

Based on your response, I assume that 5Zigen USA only provides products to registered distributors in the United States, and not to individual consumers. Would it be possible to organize a group buy of 5-10 people to pay at once for the item in order to deal with 5ZigenUSA directly, and not go through a distributor? If not, I assume I will need to talk to an authorized distributor for your company. If this is the case, I would appreciate details on such a distributor.

For reference, the product that we are interested in can be viewed at http://www.k2k2.jp/news01.htm . This is an S401 replica front bumper for the Subaru Legacy. Based on my limited knowledge of Japanese, I gather that the version to fit revision A-C(similar to USDM design) is still under development. Through various contacts, I believe that I can organize at least 5 people to purchase this product from K2Gear through 5Zigen.

I apologize if I was not clear before and look forward to your continued interest. It is much appreciated.

With best regards,

Here are some photographs of what the bumper looks like:

Please let me know if you would have interest in such a group purchase. Although I am unsure of costs, it could get expensive, but will provide further information once it becomes available

I got a reply today...cost is 750 plus shipping within the U.S., so I assume most of the people are "out"...and without 5 committed, we cannot order. So...this deal is "dead" as I attempt to contact some other vendors.

you know what would be a good bumper to get...an STi aero bumper. it was produced for only 1 year, and they are hard...actually almost impossible to find. I've been trying to for months.

Here are some pics of it:

the grill in the first pic is, but the bumper is some type of aero edition that you could purchase from Subaru dealership in Japan for only about a year, then they changed over to the D-type front end. So far i have seen about 4 legacy's with this bumper, and in every pic it looks hott.

I love the S401 bumper, but the price is a little high. Maybe if it came prepainted with the fogs it would be worth it.

Maybe next year...

Yeah...I think we can forget about this. Assuming we had a few people, the price would still be approaching $800 after transportation charges per person, unpainted. Sadly, even in Japan these bumpers are in low production and high demand, so they're charging an arm and a leg. Sorry guys, I tried.

you 3rd gen guys need to quit being such pussies. that bumper is freakin hot and definately worth 800. i think its time to buck down and start eating some top ramen to afford that thing. if i had a 3rd gen i would definately be in.i will be pissed if this doent end up happening.

Why would you be pissed? you aren't out anything except not seeing them on our cars... I would definetly love to get one... trouble would be finding the fogs. It would look like ass without them. I don't have the $800 right now, but would spend it to have a very unique leggy, 1 of 5 that has the bumper, in the states atleast.
