brand new clutch probelms???

so i recently had a crand new factory clutch put in my car as well as a slave cylinder. i was having problems with keeping pressure on the shifter fork and thats when my mechanic said i needed the slave cylinder. now i have to pump up the clutch pedal to get a good feel like you would on and old car with bad brakes. my mechanic says that my car is fixed and that is how new clutches are suppossed to feel like. now im not loking when i say it feels like a big sponge. the first press it drops right to the floor abd after about 10 or so pumps you get decent pedal but not like it was before the new clutch. i am not happy at all with either car or mechanic so if anyone has any advice for me please help.

Sounds like you may need to bleed the clutch system again there is AIR in it which can cause the clutch pedal to be spongy. GL

1) Your mechanic is full of shit. End of story.

2) You probably have air in the hydraulics. The clutch is kind of harder to bleed on a Subaru because the slave cyl sits so high. Easiest way to bleed it (also a 1-man job) is to take the lid off the clutch fluid reservoir and fill it completely full with DOT3 brake fluid. Then open the bleeder screw on the slave cyl and let it drip for a while. Make sure the fluid level in the reservoir doesn't get low. Then close the bleeder, put the cap on the reservoir and see if the pedal feels better. If not, you may need to replace the master cyl as well.

did your mechanic even bleed the system after the new install? cause thats a must to get decent pedal pressure.
