Hey guys,

I have been trawling the internet for a Legacy Forum and I have now found one.

First Ill introduce myself. Name's Chef. Or Bean. Or Karl. I live in Nelson, New Zealand. I did notice a few Kiwi members on here. That's mint.

I've looking at new cars and found a pearler of a Legacy GT for sale. It's 2003, 140000km on the clock, Cambelt was replaced at 120000km, CV just been done, Front and Rear discs just been done and has only been in the country for 6months.

My biggest question is this. Does this engine (2.0litre Single Turbo) have any major problems to deal with? Now I understand ALL cars have faults. But I just don't want to be finding a huge problem down the road in foreseeable future. Also some of my mates have told me not too with the usual blurp about Subaru's being unreliable in general. Which I think is cads wallop you just gotta treat your car right (also most of the people I tend to speak who have had problems have whacked on boost taps cranked the boost to 10000000000 pounds and boom, good bye engine). These Single turbos are dahm quick I test drove one in Nelson. Quicker than the old twin turbo I think.

Anyways if you can get back to me that would be great and I could be joining the Legacy club sooner rather than later.

Cheers

Chef, Bean, Karl

It really depends on how well the car has been taken care of. A car that was modded and driven like mad is more likely to break. I don't think that engine ever had major issues with the head gasket of the USDM 2.5 NA engines.

So as long as it hasn't been modded, and has been well maintained, it should last a good deal longer without major repairs.

i assume it'a a 2003 built MY04 (Gen4) for it to be single-turbo?

damn good car,
the Kiwi's seem to have a lot more issues with the jap import cars than her in Australia.
maybe because you guys don't bother servicing them. just throw it away and buy another one because they're sooo cheap.

Personally, the Gen4 is a combination of the best looking/ best built/ well equipped version that Subaru have produced.
it's my next car when i sell my current Gen2 TT

Thanks for the reply guys

This is 6months in the country. Just an AA (Automobile Association) pre purchase inspection done on it. NOTHING at all has come up on it.

Ive got mechanical insurance for my peace of mind. I do admit Kiwis are dahm lazy when it comes to servicing. I'm not one of them. My current car (Toyota Carib BZ Touring) has problems but I've been changing the oil every 5000km and service every 6 or so months and it still going strong.

I just bought the Subaru last night and I'm super excited to get it. Also no it hasn't been modded just different wheels. I don't plan on modifiying it as they already has enough stonk as it is.

Thanks guys.

Yeah cheers.

Only thing is the Fascia Kits for these models cost about $NZ750 :-?

But that's ok as I plan to put a Pioneer P80RSII in there  amongst other things

Also I can't remember when I test drove one but are the front speakers 3 way or just 2 way?
