HI guys! My OB "kicks" a little when shifting in 2nd (a.t.)...although not always...any ideas? What is the best RPM at idle? The sticker underneath the hood is missing,so.... Also, how do you reset the computer? Just unplug the battery? Combination?

You should move this to the trans/diff thread. And yes, if you unplug the negative cable on the battery and wait a little while, you will reset the ECU.

How many miles are on your Outback... the 4EAT is a strange character.

^? if you take the cables off your battery, i always do + and turn on the headlights, or step on the brakes for a little bit(to remove surface voltage) and let it sit for an hour or so and reconnect it, your ECu will be reset, some people will say 30 min, or 50 min or whatever, but i alwas do an hour+, go eat dinner or whatever and hook it back up.


also, you may want to look into a good quality trans flush/ maybe filter change depending on yer/mileage, but if its 3 or more yrs old, couldnt hurt.


i also woudlnt mess with the idle screws..if there are any?

clean your sensors etc.

next would look at motor/trans mounts.

or maybe if you have high mileage...which you didnt mention...more info is better...

the expanded clearances etc inside the trans can make in kick into gear/etc but it doesnt mean the trans is in imminent need of repair...with good mounts and fresh fluid....

any of these reasons can make a tranc kick into gear

Every 2nd gen Legacy with a 4EAT I've ever driven (including mine prior to the swap) shifted a bit hard into 2nd. Mine was worse when cold. Got a bit better warm.
